(Press the Left and Right buttons for 3-4 seconds and right there on the LCD screen is access to the night's pressure, leak, AHI, AI and HI.) Patients can not change their pressure via this "advanced patient menu so it was a perfectly "safe" option to include.

...You can bash Resmed for their recent pricing policy, I don't like it either, but beyond that ..... they do not deserve the bashing they often get from forum members. I didn't like their restriction of software sales a year ago this month either, but it took Respironics less than a year to follow suit to restrict their software sales as well, and for the same reason. Resmed is an excellent, reputable company producing a good product.

Thanks for that. I'm still not sure what to think But I do know it can be easy to get a misimpression from reading a weeks worth of forum posts, especially in areas of controversy.

I appreciate the info on ResMed as I still haven't made up my mind between the two companies...so your opinion is very timely...

No problem. I know how much Resmed's policy torqued MY jaws at the time. They implemented it 01 Oct 06 and I got my Resmed S8 Elite 09 Oct 06 "because" of the data provided on the LCD screen and with the definite intent to purchase their software and reader.

When I decided I "would" have an auto, based on info gleaned from fellow forum members, I purchased a pre-M Series RemStar Auto w/C-Flex (the "tank"/"classic"). I got good therapy w/it, just as I did my Elite and I got the EncorePro and the cable reader. BUT I missed that morning data on my Elite's LCD!!!! So - when a used Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage, complete, including both manuals, with only 505 hours on it I didn't waste any time in buying it!!!

Besides, Resmed's AutoScan software was easier to install and use. EncorePro was a witch, I had to have my 'puter guru install it. It wasn't as easy for me to understand until we also installed MyEncore. Plus my Resmed cable reader would work off an extension from my tower whilst the Respironics cable wouldn't and I had to fight my way to the back of my 'puter tower to plug the cable in. Not an easy task w/my arrangement.

HOWEVER .... there's no question, if a patient is a self-pay w/no or poor insurance, no question, I strongly recommend the Respironics Auto w/A-Flex or at least an M Series Pro.

Otherwise I do encourage others to give serious consideration to a fully data capable Resmed. Despite providing good basic therapy I hate to see any xPAP patient stuck w/a compliance data capable only xPAP regardless whether it is a Resmed or Respironics. OR any other brand.

Make sure you get REAL licorice. Most black licorice is anise flavored, not true licorice. Target carries an Australian true licorice.

Also, you might want to try Kefir. It is a european yogurt-like drink that has about 11-13 live cultures in it instead of 1, like regular yogurt. When my son was having tummy trouble his pediatrician recommended it and we rarely skip a day without Harry having some "yogurt juice" as he calls it. It comes in plain, and fruit flavors and would be easy to incorporate into a smoothy. I take a probiotic pill called pro-7 (7 cultures) because I am allergic to milk. It also has a pre-biotic in it called inulin which is a carbohydrate found in chicory root that encourages good bacteria growth in the gut.

You can usually find kefir in the healthfood store and some grocery stores. Trader Joe's carries it too. I would HIGHLY recommend it.

Hope you feel better soon!
