A-Flex or EPR?

Post by ApNoob » Wed Oct 03, 2007 7:56 pm

Well, just got my first split study. 57% efficiency and 15.3 events an hour. I'm still learning the lingo and the doc says this is mild.

As a cash patient he suggested i go for a high end machine through the DME or internet vendor of my choice. He suggested a Res Med s8 Autoset Vantage or a Respironics Remstar Auto M Series saying that a better machine gave me a much better chance of getting it right the first time to get better therapy and compliance.

So, although I like the fact that you can wrestle the data of the Respironics, I'm most attracted to it because it seems to have the best variety of aids to help you breath more easlily, having both the A-Flex and C-Flex flow adjustments while in APAP and CPAP, whereas the ResMed has their EPR only available in CPAP.

So, although there are a few thread extant already on this, I just want to make sure I've understood the issue right. It seems like the Respironics is more likely to have adjustments that will help me find a comfortable setting--though I don't know what the titration settings will be since my first CPAP in the split study was pretty awkward.

You are thinking correct. Although If I could I'd get a "Tank", like mine, I'd like Af;ex, but not at the loss of my "tank". Also the https://www.cpap.com/productpage/fisher ... ifier.html Would be my choice for a HH, it seems to be well liked. Jim

Interesting, i had assumed that getting the Respironics "integrated" unit for the A-Flex was the only way to add humidity...I'll have to do more research...

I've had both the Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage and the pre-M Series RemStar Auto w/C-Flex. The EPR/C-Flex and Ramp options made adjusting to xPAP therapy easier at first but w/in 3 months I turned both the EPR/C-Flex and Ramp options off. A good many of us no longer use either option.

But for those who do need them full time, EPR/C-Flex and A-Flex can be a blessing. You have no way of knowing just starting out if they are options you're going to need or always want to utilize so the M-Series w/A-Flex is a good choice. If you travel a lot, the integrated humidifiers are more convenient, but none of the integrated humidifiers have the capacity of that F&P HC 150. In addition to the integrated humidifiers to my units I have a forerunner of the 150, the F&P HC 100, and it is much the better humidifier, no question.

I'd go for the Respironics M series A-Flex machine. All its features work in Auto mode. You also get CFlex, CPAP modes within the same machine.

Depends on your pressure but breathing against AFlex is effortless compared to the other modes.

Therapy wise it works very well.
