What factors make up Compliance Percentage?

Post by sleepycarol » Sun Sep 30, 2007 9:40 am

What factors does the xpap figure when determining compliance percentages?

I just downloaded my data and it is showing 92% compliance. Yet, I have used my APAP every night since receiving it. I do get up at night for bathroom breaks and once in awhile my GERD acts up and I have to take some Mylanta (I take Prilosec and Reglan on a regular basis for it) to ease it. Is this why the data is showing only 92%? I am not up long and go straight back to bed so thought the number would have been closer to 100%.

I was told that the insurance company looks at compliance rate when deciding to purchase vs. renting my APAP. I don't want to mess things up but I don't know how to get it to 100% if I need to get up at night.

I was especially tired yesterday and took a long nap in the afternoon with my apap. Would this factor into it?

What does the insurance companies rely on to determine the percent of compliance when using an APAP?

Thanks.

My insurance company just looks for total hours used . It has to be at least 4 1/2 hours per night. So they just look at total hours used and as long as it adds up to that minimum its 100% compliant.

SleepyCarol,

On my machine (ResMed), I have to use it for at least 4 hours per day to meet the compliance criterion. It is possible for me to change the criterion (4 hrs) using the software. If I use the machine for 3 hours, its considered non-compliant.

Not sure about Respironics stuff, though.

Good Luck,

Thanks for the reply. I feel that I am 100% compliant as I use it whenever I go to bed and when it showed only 92% I was afraid that the insurance wouldn't view it as 100% compliant -- but like I stated I have to get up in the night -- always have since I was a young kid. I have NEVER slept through the night ever.

I don't want to loose my apap due to non-compliance and thought if it was going to be a problem "I could always put the mask on my hubby when he is asleep while I trot to the john" -- just kidding!! LOL!!

Carol,

I use a Remstar Auto and Encore Pro V1.6 software. Mine looks at whether the APAP was used for at least four hours per day, from noon to noon. I suspect V1.8 uses the same measure.

On the detailed report from Encore Pro, the first page shows the hours used each day for the period covered. The second page shows a graph of the actual times during which the machine was used each day. Therefore, anyone who wanted to could see your actual usage for the period covered by the download.

My compliance has never been 100% even though I’ve used it whenever I sleep. This is mainly because it was set up a few days before I received it and began using it, and those count as non-compliant days. Might you have the same situation?

Wayne
