New Mask Sizing Confusion

Post by hen3ry » Thu Sep 27, 2007 6:34 pm

Folks:

My DME handed me a Respironics ComfortClassic Small nasal mask as my first.

How did they come up with "small"? I really don't know, the RT didn't measure me. It's my first mask, so I have no standard of comparison, but it seems to work reasonably well for me, except the Gel Forehead Spacer developed a serious wound, as I've posted recently, and it is starting to shed small pieces of goo.

OK, I'll order a new spacer. (I really don't want to deal with my DME more than I absolutely must.) Hmmm, while I'm ordering, I'll try another mask. Someone suggested the Respironics ComfortGel as the same mask with a different, larger Forehead Spacer, and that looks like as good as any to try next.

So I went to the cpap.com store and filled out the sizing questionnaire. Being of skeptical disposition, I filled out the sizing questionnaire for both my _existing_ (ComfortClassic) mask and the proposed _new_ one, ComfortGel.

The results came back: A MEDIUM ComfortClassic is recommended, a ComfortGel is "not recommended for you".

Bleah! Now what? Did my DME give me the wrong-sized mask? Maybe I'm in the grey area and could take either small or medium, OK. But I don't know what to make of the "not recommended". Isn't it the same mask with similar spacing, just a much larger footprint (hmmm...) on the forehead?

Comments? Suggestions?

Thanks,

Henry
