BiPap

Post by wasp1911 » Thu Sep 20, 2007 6:54 am

I am so glad I found this group. I was diagnosed with sleep apnia in 2002. I eventually got a lung infection that took about 5 months to clear up. It left my lung scarred. I was using a regular cpap with a nasal pillow. Needless to say, I did not use the cpap again. Every time I tried I would go into coughing fits. I was using a humidfier, too. I finally decided to check into the surgery. In order to have it, I had to have another sleep study done. The second night during the sleep study, I started out with another nasal pillow, but just could not stand it. I felt like my lungs were set on fire. They switched the mask to the Flexfit 431 full sleep mask. They also put me on a bipap plus M series by Respironics . I was surprised, but I could tolerate it. Does anyone in this forum also use a bipap? What are your experiences with it?

Thanks!

Lots of Bipap users here. Most are pretty happy with their choice.

I am one of those who believes Bilevel therapy is best.

Cheers

I just received a Bipap Auto about 2 weeks ago, because my insurance company did not want to pay for a new cpap for me with "patient comfort " features. I must say that when I first received my AUto w/aflex (had it for 2 weeks) I thought it was "the bees knees" so to speak. When I found out they were not going to cover the new cpap I panicked . MY pressure was raised to 18. Then my DME came up with a plan to get me a BiPap Auto(which the insurance company covered). I think the Auto Bipap works better than the auto cpap for me. I no longer have that feeling of having to labor to exhale. I can barely tell its on. It has made such a difference to me.

I too started with a straight Cpap then got an Apap auto with Cflex and now have a M-series Bipap auto with Biflex and like DSM said they are the best, at least for me it is. The machine has a canny ability to mimic your natural breathing rhythm so close that it does seem natural and it really helps if you have problems with Aerophagia and sinus flair ups. Having support pressure relief and Biflex really makes this machine very tolerable, much better than a Cpap machine.

BI PAP

My pressure is 20, so, I got lucky and my RX was for a bi pap plus M series by Respironics from the start. My breathing is very natural and I've never had a bad night(knock on wood). I've just bought the auto version of this same machine so that I can have my original as a travel/backup machine. I believe that you will be pleased. Regards
