Variable breathing question

I just downloaded the Encore Pro Analyser, what a great program! Lots of charts! Maybe this is a dumb question /does anybody know what the variable breathing chart means as far as treatment etc?

If you go to the Search function and search on "variable" and author "Derek" (who wrote the original MyEncore program), you will find the following three threads which discuss it.

Basically.....nobody knows.....
Derek found it in the data that was being recorded to the Smart card and included it in his program. James Skinner did the same with his program.
