Activa mask noise

Post by oceanpearl » Fri Sep 07, 2007 6:53 am

My new Activa mask finally arrived from Apria yesterday. Washed it and tried it last night and couldn't stand the noise.
I have never heard air noise this loud from a mask and had to go back to my Comfort Gel.
Is this normal for Activa??

I just want to go back to sleep!

Try reconnecting the short hose to the mask. It will leak air if the connection is not good. The hose/mask connection should rotate smoothly. Any binding will indicate a poor seal.

Mine is very quiet and comfortable. The only time I hear air rushing out is when the hose connection is bad or a leak around the mask from moving around.

Hope this helps.

I want to echo what ColoradoDreamer said. The Activa is an excellent mask but does take some fine tuning at times. If you are having noises, do check the connection at the swivel and make sure that it moves easily. Also with mine, if the exhaust ports are too close to the covers or pillow, I will get a noise.

You probably have already learned that it is an art to fit the mask to your face without leaks.

Otherwise, I often to have feel the air flow from exhaust ports just to make sure it is on.

I agree that the Activa is a very quiet mask. One other place to check for leaks is the piece with the exhaust holes. That was a bit out of place on mine one night, and it was noisy!

If you took it apart to clean it, the green retainer may not be seated properly. I've had this happen, and it makes an awful racket. Refer to the reassembly instructions, and make sure you hear the tabs on the retainer click into place. If not, it may appear to be properly assembled, but in fact is not.

I have had the green part look like it was in place, but it was not. It made a hell of a noise.
You really need to watch the video that came with it. I watched it like 12 times. This mask taks some getting used to in the re-assembly process. Pay attention to the "snaps" when you insert the hard green plastic peice. Then pull on the part that goes against your face to make sure it's on securely.
It's a great mask, but takes some tweaking to get it right. (after you get it put together right!)

Just took it completelu apart after watching the video several times. It seems to be much less noisy. Bedtime will tell the tale.

One time I put the ports cap on the wrong way. It whistled constantly! I dealt with it a night or two and just kept pushing it in tighter. Then I finally figured out that the tabs that stick out from the parts that go into the mask should be on the OUTside! Once I repositioned it correctly, the problem was solved! Except for some minor size discrepencies, I love my Activa! Very quite and reliable. I've also had the issue before the with green clip that attaches the mask cushion to the frame. Getting better at taking it apart, putting it all back for cleaning. I worry about loosing that darn ports cap though! It's so small! If it whistled with it on wrong I hate to think of what it would sould like with it missing!

Ahh! The fix worked. Pleasurable nights sleep. This looks as if it will be my go to mask.
