my first night of 8 hours sleep on the auto and headache sti

Post by cindyh » Sat Sep 01, 2007 11:49 am

I thought i would wake up feeling vibrant, refreshed etc I still woke up with a headache that is terrible.. yes, i had water in the humidifier, and the mask stayed on all night thanks to a new shoelace... its an auto so i should be getting the right level, correct? What else can cause headaches? I was told by the sleep doc when you get enough sleep with the machine the headache will be gone, and i have never been a person to have headaches anyway...

Since you haven't filled in your profile, I'm guessing you use a nasal mask, therefore you have a chanch of mouthbreathing. Mouthbreath can cause poor treatment and HEADACHES.

Taping or a FF Mask can cure this problem, maybe if the DME's and Dr's knew what they were doing they could warn their patients. Jim

It can take a while for some of these symptoms to go away, but goof is right about the mouthbreathing iss. I tape or use polident strips to cope with this since I can't use a ff mask.

Keep at it. It takes time. For some it takes days, others weeks, some months. Everybody is different. The results are worth it.

And remember it does take time, but the clock doesn't start until the leaks are under control. With two Nasal masks, You wouldn't even know when you were leaking because it happens when you are sleeping. That's why the software and data in needed. Jim

Jim is right. There are lots of threads about mouthbreathing and taping and mouth leaks. Take some time to read them and try whatever you think will work for you. You may just want to go back to your dme and ask for a full face mask. If your mouth opens when you sleep, all the therapy goes right out the mouth and does you no good.

Make sure your treatment is optimized and keep looking for answers.
