Adapt SV Alarm Volume

Post by DrowzyDave » Wed Aug 29, 2007 4:34 pm

What is the deal with the alarm volume on the Adapt SV? I have it set to low and it is still so loud it scares the crap out of me! It went off the other morning and I about jumped out of bed. My heart was pounding and I thought "If the apnea doesn't give me a heart attack, the darn machine alarm will".

I don't want to disable it since I feel it is an important bit of information. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it quieter?

Thanks.

Dave

Let me look at the documentation, perhaps there is a way to adjust it.
Can't say that I recall.

My PB330 has several alarms (things like flow & leak etc:) but luckily I can turn almost all of them off.

But, one night the thing sounded off & while defending myself from an angry wife I eventually shut it off but not after trying all sorts of button pushing.

It turns out we had a power failure & the PB330 has an internal NiCd battery that will keep it running for several minutes - then an alarm sounds. IIRC The alarm wouldn't stop until I held the off key down for a while.

The noise this machine makes reminds me of those screaming fire alarms that people put in their kitchens.

I wonder if the guy that designed that alarm circuit went to work for Respironics in the blue LED button department...

but isn't that the purpose of that alarm? to wake and startle you back into breathing?

Don't think you'd want to silence that alarm

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

There is an alarm menu and you can set the volume levels.

Look under Clinical and Settings. There is an option for Alarm Volume.
Mine is set low and it is plenty loud for me to awaken me if something is not connected or otherwise the alarm is needed.

Yes, mine is already set to low and no, I don't want to disable it. I found that a piece of adhesive-backed foam stuck over the small "speaker" on the back lowers it to a level that will wake me if there is a problem, but not cause me to have a heart attack.
