Encore Pro Data - I think I'm doing OK, am I?

Post by Newsgrouper » Sun May 01, 2005 12:38 pm

Using a Respironics Auto with C-Flex and heated humidifier and have been on straight CPAP for 2 nights (8 hours each night). I installed Encore Pro and the card reader and just downloaded the data from the first 2 nights. I think I did OK these nights but would like your analysis of this data:

DAILY EVENTS PER HOUR
CPAP @ 9cm H2O

% of Night: 100.0
Flow Limitation: 0.0
Snore: 9.0
Non Responsive Apnea/Hypopnea: 0.0
Obstructive Apnea: 0.9
Hypopnea: 1.7
AHI: 2.6

LEAK STATISTICS
Average Max Leak: 152.8 lpm
Average 90% Leak: 47.6 lpm
Average Leak: 34.5 lpm
Average Time in Large Leak Per Night: 0 mins.

I think I did OK but would like some reassurance from my friends here who are familiar with interpreting this data. I am upset because it looks like I am still snoring. I was hoping that would stop.

Your download looked great. You are definitely on the right track. I am interested, however, if you have the Remstar Auto - why is it on fixed CPAP? A snore of 9 is something a lot of people would kill for - there have been several discussions on the site about what the Remstar is recording as snore - other than snore!! Derek has done some experimentation with it and discovered some interesting things. I believe that it has something to do with vibration - but don't trust me, I do not understand any of it. I do know that your scores were great!! Continued sucess!

I too am curious why you are on cpap, and not on auto mode. You can change it easily with the card reader using prescription mode. I am no doc, but I would set it at 4-11 pressure in auto mode and see what happens. Maybe you only need a much lower pressure. But your AHI looks good.I have same machine, so maybe I like to tinker.

Great results - I hope you are also beginning to feel a lot better.
I agree with loonlvr, though I'm also not a doctor.
I was prescribed 11cm and tried CPAP for a few weeks. Very uncomfortable. Now I have my remstar auto set at 6cm-12cm and rarely go above 8cm, which is much more comfortable.

I think I'd work a bit on figuring out where the leaks were coming from. Otherwise, looks good.

Are you sure you aren't just BRAGGING?

Many people can only dream of results that good (so to speak).

Note that "major leak" is a high number, but the duration is under a minute for the entire night and the rest of the leakage is really not THAT bad. (Or certainly better than what I battled to get DOWN TO for a long time)

Happy dreams!

Having been titrated at 7 cm H2O I initally left my Remstar Auto set at 4-20. However, I noticed my max pressure never exceed 12 and min generally exceeded 7 but the low initial pressure seemed to be too low and I found I was feeling "starved" and needing to initially breath quite deeply. I gradually increased the min pressure (by 1cm per week) until this discomfort was eliminated and noted the incidence of reported apneas also decreased. But my Hypopnea index seemed to remain relatively high at 6 -10. As I lowered my max pressures this appear to reduce. I now have my machine set at 7 - 11 cm H2O and find this is comfortable and apparently to be more effective that the wider settings. I would therefore suggest that, although I am not medically qualified and shuld therefore be ignored, that simply leaving the range set at 4 - 20 and relying on the machines diagnostic abilities is not the preferred use of the auto machine and would support cautious tinkering with the range, in conjunctionwith the encore reports and medical advice, with a view to finding your own most effective and comfortable range.

I agree and think most of the oldies in here would too that a wide range of pressure is not always advisable. From my experience and others I don't believe the machine is capable of making a lot of adjustments quickly enough. The best policy I believe is to have the range a few cms below and above ones titrated presuressure. Mine was 10, and I have mine at 8-14. If I set it to high it apparently induces centrals. As always, I'm no doc, and I'm only going by my experience.
