My son went to a sleep specialist several months ago, but during the split night study was unable to tolerate the mask they put on him for the titration part, although they said he had over 47 events an hour for the first part.
He has since lost 35 pounds and is now very slim and working out but can tell he still has apnea (falling alseep in front of the TV, reading, etc). Another visit to the Sleep Dr. and he said he didn't need another sleep test, he needed to go to an oral surgeon and have the surgery to have his jaw advanced!
Can you believe this????!!??!?! He needs to find another Sleep specialist who will either give him an APAP or something to do a home titration study (and one of the less intrusive, non-claustrophobic masks) or give him better advise than this one.
Sleep Dr. in Cincinnati?
I'm pretty pleased with the doctor I saw to get my CPAP - hated my local hospital's sleep center. He's part of a network of SW Ohio sleep centers call Sleepcare Diagnostics. They have an office in Mason, and a silly URL: snorenomore.com.
If he's not adverse to travel, I hear Kettering Medical Center has dramatically improved their sleep facility in the last few months (this I learn after going outside a hospital). Kettering's just south of Dayton, about 45 min north from central Cincy. I'd be glad to give your son directions and/or provide him a friendly landing zone if he decides to come up this way. My choice would be Dr. Barbara Phillips in Lexington, KY, too. I've never met her (I think Ted has), but based on the great advice she put in this powerpoint presentation (clickable link below), she'd definitely be the one I'd go to:
Powerpoint presentation at a meeting of the American Lung Association of the Central Coast - November 2004
Mikesus, I love you for finding that link in the first place!! I've used it a lot.
