It's possible to have a great night's sleep!

Post by gasp » Mon Aug 13, 2007 1:40 pm

Since beginning CPAP in June, I have been wishing for the night's sleep I had last night! I heard it was possible to wake up with energy and feeling refreshed, but hadn't experienced that for myself in more years than I can remember.

I awoke this morning feeling something was different. I felt awake. When I got out of bed I began zipping around with energy.

When I looked at my numbers, they told the same story as how I'm feeling - yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHI 1.6

Versus nights like this:

I hope every night after this will be just like last night, but if not, at least I know that it's possible.

How'd you do it?

Post by Sid » Mon Aug 13, 2007 2:49 pm

I've been on CPAP therapy since May and have yet to have a good nights sleep where I can say I slept more than 2 to 3 hours straight. Being a mouth breather the "nose" masks haven't worked for me even with chin straps. The pressure is set for 12, I generally set it to ramp up to full pressure and when it does I feel like I'm riding in the back of a pick up truck and wake up. Since then I've reduced the pressure to 10 and am gradually building back up to 12(not doing this on my own, this was advice from a professional). The problem I'm having now is waking up to the sounds of leakage. It's either "face farting" sounds with the Res Med Mirage mask or leakage around the nares on my new Hybrid mask. Tried different sizes etc. but still having problems. My doctor said to hang in there it will take time. How much time, I'm getting PO'd. How did you do it?

Awesome indeed, gasp.

Sid, if you haven't come across these links yet, you might want to check out the topics about the Hybrid to see if someone has done a "fix" that might help you get the nasal pillows to stop leaking:

I use a full face mask, Res Med Mirage, and someone on one of the posts said to use a band ( I use a wide elastic band like for a waist band, with Velcro on the ends) around from the back of your head over the nose part, making sure not to cover the breathing out holes. You don't need it tight. It just sort of stabilizes the center of the mask and really really helps. I have a setting of 16, so you can just imagine the noise I hear.

Hey Eileen,
Hear that.
I use a nasal rather than a FF (now -- FF is on the way) but I get those "face farts" as well but it's usually when I flip over on my side. I tend to be a side sleeper -- right and left, and the ComfortGel seems very flexible to that movement, but at times (especially close to wake up time) it leaks badly. Take a look at RG's links, posted above, and you'll find all kinds of great info on things the "Lab Rats" and others have tried -- both what worked and what didn't. Hopefully you'll find something that works for you.
The band around the whole magila sounds good -- especially if it doesn't have to be tight.

Keep at it and let us know how you're doing!!!!!
Good luck
cheers
