S8 Elite Humidifier Question

Post by dieselgal » Thu Aug 16, 2007 11:16 am

Is there a way of keeping the water cool through the night? It tends to get warmer than I like especially on these warm nights. I thought of ice but the opening is pretty small.
Is the water always warming on this machine?

You can turn the heat down and off (knob is on the lower left - also check your humidifier manual). The air will simply pass over the water and then it will be cool. I keep mine about half way up, but have changed it up or down as I felt the need.

As I understand it cold water produces very little moisture. Thats why you get more humidification as the heat goes up. Kinda like you can't have both. Qualifier: I could be wrong, if so somebody correct me!

Do you mean the knob in the center here? That is the control I use everyday. I don't want to turn it down to much but I would like it to be cooler air. If I don't use the humidifier it would really be bad for me.

Yep, that's the knob. Turn it fully off. The air will still pass over the water and provide humidity. Right now I'm running my Humidaire 3i at 1. Last week it was so hot I had it turned off a couple of nights. There were a few nights this winter that even turned all the way up to 6 my nose was COLD and it wasn't providing as much humidity as I wanted so I took it off entirely and used a stand alone Fisher & Paykel HC 150 heated humidifier which has more capacity than the Resmed or Respironics integrated heated humidifiers.

I've also turned my humidifier off and used it as a passover. I refridgerate my water and fill the chamber ust before going to bed. That makes the water really cool while I'm falling asleep. I do this whether I keep it in passover or use some humidifacation. Either way the water is cool to start off with. I'd be wary of doing anything further to lower the temperature, just to protect the structural integrity of the chamber.

I turned the humidifier way down last night but not completely off and that was a little better. This morning I feel a little stuffed up but sleeping was ok and it felt cooler. I have it now on the lowest setting.
Thanks for the input.
