Hi, my name is Toby and have visited this site but just joined. I was falling asleep driving to and from work which is only 15 miles on a Hwy. 2-3 times each way, not long mind you maybe 1-3 seconds at a time. The shoulder would wake me or I would just suddenly awake to find my self in the middle of the road. I even fell asleep while fast forwording thru commercials. My wife is getting real tired of me sleeping all the time. So I made the plung to have a SS done and got a machine. It is the HC220LE with the humidifier and a Comfort Full Face mask. I have a beard and am a mouth breather. I am having a hard time finding a mask that does not leak. I don't have ins so it has been a real experience so far. I am thinking about the Oracle mouth piece and if anyone has had any experiences with it. I have had the machine for almost a month and am finding myself taking it off in the early hours, feeling that I have had no good sleep. Am still tired and have no energy. When I first got the system I kept it on all night until maybe 5:30am and would take it off so the marks would go away. At first I had the medium, but it seemed that to have it around my mouth it was down half way on my nose. Now I have a large but it seems to leak at the corners of my mouth, no matter how loose or how tight I have it. Hope I haven't bored anyone since everyone that comes on here probably says close to the same thing.

Hi Toby,
Don't apologize. Remember, a lot of new people post to this forum. Many have similar questions, but it's still new to most people. We don't mind the questions, not at all. I personally like seeing the questions because I know there are lots of people here who can help.
I might not be one of those helpful people, especially since I don't have the full face mask. But I am interested in hearing what others might say concerning your problems with the leaks. I might get one myself, if only as a backup for when I do have real problems due to bad colds, etc. So I hope you get some good advice on a good mask.
It seems lots of people find they take the mask off in the middle of the night. Some do it while they sleep, and don't even know they're doing it. I can't count the times I've woken up to find my mask lying next to me. I would wonder how that happened. Haha! It still happens some, but not as often. And lately it hasn't happened at all.
Sounds like your exhaustion was plenty severe. So it only stands to reason that it will take your body some time to adjust to the treatment. But working to get a good mask is well worth your effort.
Good luck. Whatever you do, don't give up. We don't want you out there on the road endangering your life or the lives of others. You need to get your health back. So don't give up. Hang in there.

They said on the sleep study that I did that in 1 hr I had stopped breathing 100 times and the longest was 46 sec. I think that since I really was not getting any useful sleep at night that when I do go to sleep for an hour or two my body is waking me up, I then go back to sleep and again wake up one to two hrs later. Sometimes I am up every hour. I will be glad when I get to sleep all night and am not falling asleep watching TV. I am going to order an Oracle and try it. I should not have to many problems since I very seldom use my nose to breath. If I do have problems I will get some nose plugs for swimming.I will keep on with the machine. It has got to get better.

Toby,
Before I started treatment, I was much the same.
At it's worst, I was waking an hour after lying down. Then I would wake, sit up at the side of my bed. I would sit there for the longest time, wondering why I wasn't anxious to go back to sleep. It got so I would sit up for nearly an hour. Then I'd try again, and an hour later I'd be sitting up yet again. Again I wondered why I wasn't wanting to go back to sleep, because I KNEW I was sleepy. (Mind you, I was alone, with noone telling me I made weird breathing sounds while sleeping)
It got so that I could even fall asleep sitting upright at the edge of my bed. At first when I started falling asleep like that, I would start to fall. But eventually, I got so I could sleep while sitting up, without even falling back onto the bed or onto the floor!! Bizarre!
And my heart seemed like it was racing when I would wake up, each time at night. I knew that wasn't right. I thought I must have some heart condition. I simply couldn't understand what was happening.
I now know that I was waking up from the not breathing. My body was telling me to sit up and breathe. My mind was not wanting me to lie back down. So strange. So very strange.
