Alternate Uses for old CPAP Parts

Post by katnmags » Sat Aug 11, 2007 4:12 pm

While RVing one summer at New Brighton State Beach on the Monterey Bay in California - Maybe you have been there? You may not know this, but with allthat nice weather, it attracts many diverse people. The RV was parked across from a woman obviously living in her Lincoln Continental. She was clean and presentable, however, I noticed something 'different' about her.

On the second or third day of our stay, she must have decided that I looked presentable enough also, or maybe it was her intense curiousity:

I had hung my BiPAP hose from the handle of the upper cabinet above my head, and with the blinds only partially tilted closed, she could see what she thought to be a fiber-optic cable antennae,

apparently the kind used in communicating with beings 'not of this earth'!

And all the while I had been trying to think of a good use for all my old hoses, like rigging something up to clean gutters and dirty sidewalks!

Anyone else have any alternate uses - in this reality or some alternate Universe, for their old parts...er, I mean from their CPAP parts collected over the years?

Thanks, Maggie

Ahhhh.....the poor lady! Did she say just whom she thought you were communicating with?

I don't have a big stash yet. I will be 'on the hose' 2 years when October rolls around. I have found, though, that my machine does a good job of blowing dust out of the computer. (No, I don't have a laptop yet)

Welcome to the forum katnmags. It is always nice to have new folks come by. I hope you stay awhile.

CPAP Hose or Fiber optic communications cable?

Post by katnmags » Sat Aug 11, 2007 5:23 pm

Dear Bamalady,

Somehow this nice gal faded quickly away once I let her down easy about the CPAP hose situation. If I recall correctly, she was asking me if I had any luck with whomever I was trying to contact. I wonder if she knew something I didn't?

Thank you for the welcome, and btw, I have been enjoying myself immensely by reading posts from Mike Moran, and the subsequent follow-ups from others on this site! I didn't realize how starved I was for a little hose humor! Nor did I realize how similar our common experieces are - which I should have known! Isn't that the nature of the common experience?

Thanks again,

katnmags

Perhaps. Who knows for sure????

Yes, Mike's posts make for some great reading. If you plug his name into Search, you will find more. He brings a smile to this face for sure. His posts are too far between these days.

Humor certainly helps, as does finding folks who are experiencing similar trials and tribulations.

Are you from California, or were you just visiting?[/quote]

well, my first CPAP might work as a leaf blower ! Its large and noisy enough.
I could probably use its humidifer tank to hold some fishies. I always wanted tropical fish anyways.

More alternate uses

Bamalady,

I am from California by way of Minnesota! I followed my job to the Central Coast of California. Later I moved to Arizona.

I tend to bloom where I am planted.

I liked the leaf blower idea, since my Sullivan sounded much like a leaf blower when the mask slipped around, or when my dainty little mouth was gaping open like the hanger for a DC10, with gale force winds swirling around the room! Tropical fish are nice too...

Well,

I had a notebook PC with a failed fan - I needed a way to blow cool air in the fan outlet at the back of the notebook.

So I grabbed an old cpap machine I had spare (Polaris ISP9800) and with a 12in air hose & some cardboard fashined a shroud that allowed air to blow in the required air vent.

Woked 100% & if the cms was set to 4, was also pretty quiet.

Our two daughters went to college in a town where we had an office. We often visited our daughters and went to games etc. and the hotel rooms were often booked unless we planned way in advance which we usually didnt. My wife and I kept a couple of air mattresses and we often slept on the office floor. My cpap machine and hose filled the mattresses very fast. I also used an old machine and hose with an adapter taped on the end to fill pool toys like large whales, tubes, etc. They make a great blower to fill low pressure items.

I referred to my remstar plus as a glorified leaf blower. I'm reasonably sure I got that here. I can't imagine where else.

Doug.

-a HVLP sprayer pump
-a door stop (Resmed S8, everyone already knows that and its too small to be a boat anchor)
-a plant waterer (M series humidifier)

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...
