feeling better wrote:JerryR

Thanks for the advice. I did go ahead and try the Flexifit HC407 and actually I think it worked well for me. When I first go to bed at night the Ultra Mirage FF, the Activa and the Flexifit all seem to seal well, but as the night goes on I must perspire and I seem to lose the seal.

What I did like better about the Flexifit than the activa was that it was lighter and believe it or not even more quiet. But on the downside the vent blew across the bed at my wife, whereas the Activa vents either up or down.

I know think I have several masks that I like, but until I have tried them all I can't be sure

Now I think my next hurdle to tackle is stopping the air from leaking out of my mouth. I have tried the head band with limited success. I'm would like to try the tape across the lips, but I'm a bit squeamish when it comes to sticky things (bandaids, tape, stickers).
Glad to hear it. That's the thing with these masks - what works great for one becomes an object to hurl across the room for another.

Comfort Curve

Received my Comfort Curve yesterday and slept with it last night. Looked at the nasal pieces and chose medium, slapped it on. Did not try the other 2 sizes. The headgear is minimal which is a pleasure to me. You have to adjust the cheekpads to fit your face - I lowered mine to the second to the bottom position and it sealed instantly. Probably the most difficult thing to get used to is that it has to sit beneath the tip of your nose - if you set it up too high it will leak. If the cheekpads are pointing at your eyeballs, you will not get a good seal. Yes, it takes a little adjustment but I have not found a mask that does not. The nosepiece is very soft and I did not have red marks on my face this morning. The clip on the hose was nice and held the hose onto the sheet without dragging it and the hose weight pulling the mask out of place. My only real problem was the top strap of the headgear - I would pull it off the crown of my head, which of course loosens the mask. That is my own fault because I sleep with 2 gigantic downfilled pillows which I will not give up for CPAP!!!! I am a side and stomach sleeper. Slept on my stomach most of the night without any problems.
Masks are a personal choice and like it or not, it is a hit or miss proposition.
I have used the Nasalaire, which was a nightmare for me. I also have the Activa, which I have used for a year and have never been particularly fond of because I do not like anything in front of my face. It does seal well but I can knock it out of position just like any other mask. They recently provided me with a new Activa and I cannot wear it at all. Evidently they have snuck in some changes in the composition so that it can be autoclaved for sterilization purposes - done for the DME, not the consumer.
The size of the headgear is slightly altered and the entire thing now rubs the bridge of my nose raw. I also have the Vista which is a nightmare to fit but if you have the patience for it, it provides an ok seal. So, like everyone else, I will hop between masks as the mood strikes and deal with each one differently, except for the nasalaire which is now being used as a slow dripping plant waterer for when I am on vacation. Makes an interesting conversation piece. In the next week or so, after I have used the Comfort Curve for several nights, I am going to wear each mask for 1 night and then do a download and see what the differences are in leak, pressure levels etc - if any. Be glad to answer any questions about the Comfort Curve. One hint I do have is, fit the interface and headgear for comfort, turn on the machine, then pull the nosepiece away from your nose for a second and then turn it loose - that baby will seal under your nose like a suction cup - repeat, under your nose, not over the tip!!!!!! All in all, after ONE night I was not displeased. Do I think it is a secret cure for all your CPAP complaints - No - but it was not uncomfortable and not really problematic. So as usual - to each his own.

2listless:

I'm going to try some of the tips from your post this weekend when I give my Comfort Curve its first full night's use - you sorted out some things I hadn't been able to sort out about positioning, and I now have to try pulling the cushion away to see if that helps the seal

I really want this puppy to work! Showed the hubby last night - bless him for pretending to be interested - and he agreed that, by all description, it should be more comfortable. It was just a matter of learning the system with it, I guess.

You guys having problems with the need to look closely at the tips given by 2listless. I used those tips to fit my brand new and just received ComforCurve last night. I had no problems whatsoever. Tina (There), I noticed that you were going to try 2listless information. Did that help? Also Tina, you are absolutely correct in that the documentation definitely needs expanded. Those cheekpad adjustments are the key to fitting. I wrote a little abou my experience with the mask at link to "I felt Naked in my new ComfortCurve Nasal Interface!"

The pull and reseal most definitely worked, but still having problems with the cheek pad adjustments.
