Night Owl Infinity Mask

Post by guest » Wed Apr 20, 2005 4:15 am

I am interested in the Infiniti mask. I see that night owl uses it and wondered how it compares with the Swift which I use. Any user reviews from anyone will be appreciated.

"Bullwinkle" uses the Infinity and has tinkered with the setup quite a bit. Click on "Search" in this forum and type in "Bullwinkle" to find all of his postings. He made a couple of comments about the Infinity.

I tried it ...............No Luck

Infinity

I just bought one to use in my rotation, but I've only tried it a few times so far. I replaced the strap with something flatter. I got through one partial night, then a few nights later a full night, then last night part of a night. The next time I try it I think I'm going to try going down one size on the nasal inserts. Luckily, they send you all 4 sizes. It's much quieter than the Swift, or anything else I've ever tried, for that matter. If you're a restless sleeper, though, i wouldn't recommend the Infinity, unless the inside of your nose is pretty tough, as it's mostly held on by pressure inside the nose. I find that every time I turn over or move at all, I need to hold it in my nose while I'm moving. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I feel like it could hurt the inside of my nose if i moved around without holding it in place. I've also found that unlike every other interface I've tried, the Infinity seems to work better if i don't loop my hose through a dangling bungee over my head. I find that for me the Swift torques badly and pulls out of my nose easily, and the Infinity is about the same in that respect. The Infinity has virtually no headgear, which I find to be a real plus, especially with summer coming. If the next smaller size works for me, I could imagine the Infinity becoming my favorite interface, but it's not quite there yet. I currently rotate between the Breeze (my first interface and old standby), the Swift, the Aura, and the Infinity.

Infinity mask ideas

Been using the Infinity on and off for a about 6 weeks. Switch it with the Swift -- Like them both very much -- find it easier to "stick with it" when I switch. Sleep soundly now with either one 7 hours.

To compare it with the Swift: the Infinity is lighter but not as stable, but that's not an issue anymore w the tips below. The Infinity, for me, goes more into the nostril. The Infinity is very comfortable for side-sleeping. The torque on the hose issue was the main adjustment factor for me w the Infinity -- but is resolved now.

Getting used to the Infinity:

1) finally figured out that if you are sleeping on your back, swivel the elbow down so the hose rests on your chest and you get more stability than if it is "suspended" in air off to the side. Really simple manuever but made a huge difference. Also have the length of the hose stabilized on the headboard as I've read here that many folks do for other masks.

2) for side sleeping it works great and the hose isssue is resolved with it on the pillow or mattress and air leakage is less on the side than w the Swift.

3) the strap, for me, works best high on the head, sort of "in line" with the angle of the tabs that hold the strap on the mask.

4) using a very mild soap and rinsing well was critical for me as the nose piece is further into the nostril than the Swift. It took about a week to get used to the feel of it anyway -- but once the torque issue on the hose and the strap placement was worked out it isn't an issue. However, I find it best for me to switch every 2 or 3 nights with the Swift.

5) if you are turning about, say from left to right side, leave the elbow turned to the left and just turn. The hose will be comfortably rested when you finish your turn. No need to flip the hose about and don't swivel the elbow straight up. Same as turning from back to either side. Just let the elbow fall to the left or right naturally and it will drape comfortably over you and down.

6) be good to your nose and don't turn the elbow straight up, w/o bracing it

This sounds complicated as it's written here -- but is just a matter of getting used to a new doohickee. ( Is that a word ? ) If pressed, I would say that the Swift is the easier one to get used to in general. Side sleepers may prefer the Infinity.

For me, each mask is a joy to return to after a couple nights, and each one wears out its welcome after a few nights. Like a lot of other things Hope this helps a bit.

Night Owl,

Is there a url you can point me to. I've been doing a search on the net for 'Infinity' and can only find cars. If I expand my search to include CPAP, then I hit all CPAP sites, which do not necessarily carry the Infinity. Any help would be appreciated.
