Mask Attachment-Recommendation for Daughter with Downs

Post by nanmykel » Sat Apr 09, 2005 8:23 am

It seems to me that the straps to hold the mask on with are as important as the mask. Any recommendations for attaching the ResMed Ultra Mirage Full Face Mask? My Downs daughter's mask keeps coming off during the night.

How old is your daughter, adult or child? The full face mask does have a "quick release" tab that can accidentally be release pretty easily.
Has she tried non full face masks? Perhaps the activa? With heated humidification, sometimes mouth breathing ceases.

A REM behavior disturbance has jujst been tentatively diagnosed. It may be that this is the time when she takes her mask off. We've come back to the full face mask after many trials of others. She's 33. I'm also wondering about one of those machines with an alarm that goes off when the mask does. Thanks for the response.

I have a RemStar auto - which I just got. The alarm goes off after around 30 secs with the mask off - enough to hear - but prolly not enough to hear in another room.

some people remove the mask due to discomfort, such as having to wear it too tight to overcome eye leaks, etc. Does she complain of any pressure points or have obvious irritated areas? In addition to small, mediium and large, the mask cushions also come in Shallow, which are designed for flatter bridge noses, as seen in Asian populations, I wonder if a "small/shallow" cushion would increase comfort and discourage removal.
