RemStart Auto

Post by NeurosurgeryNP » Sat Apr 09, 2005 9:39 am

Hi all -

Just wanted to let you know, after much debate, much info and support from you all, and after one month on straight CPAP, I got my RemStar auto from the nice folks at cpap.com yesterday. I got it all together, installed the software, and slept with it for the first night. Wow - what a difference a great machine can make. I started with the Invacasre Polaris with SoftX - supposed to be comparable to C Flex - it kind of is, but even at it's Max setting, doesn't rival C flex at 1. Also, the machine itself is much more quiet - I though the Polaris was quiet until I got the RemStar. The Polaris itself was not a bad entry model, but I am glad I made the decision to go to the RemStar Auto.
As for the first night's data - I found out that even with the chin strap, I am having big leak problems - 27 minutes to be exact - and I using the Activa -so it's not that - it has to be mouth leaks. Here goes th etape again...hopefully no mroe rashes - I had to stop for a while as the tape was leaving tape burn that was evident all day throughout work! People would ask me what happened! I was titrated at a prescribed pressure of 9 - but I tried to start at 7 as a minimum. However - the air flow took some getting used to compared with my other machine, and I had to reset it for 9 min last night to get through the night - vculdn't fall asleep at 7. Reviewing the data today, I stayed at 9.5 all night and no untreated apneas. Only had an AHI of around 2.1 I think.
So, THANKS to all of you for your great support, advice, and tech support. I know so much about CPAP after only one month on it (but did lots of research here after my first sleep study and diagnosis). I tell all of my friends and co-workers on CPAP about this forum. They always tell me I am so knowledgable - and I tell them it's because of all of you.

That's great news Jen, you must be really pleased
I think that machine is terrific too, so hopefully your experience will help others to insist on one

Jen,

Sounds great!

You should be able to find some softer tape that will work better and not leave a mark. Look for the soft and stretchy kind. It is more comfortable and comes off easier. Hopefully after a while you will train yourself not to open your mouth. I rarely use tape anymore.
Sincerely,

That's terrific Jen! It's a great combination mask and machine. I needed a few days to get my Activa just right but now I love it, no leaks and no red marks in the morning! Congratulations on your results!

Great new, Jen, and thanks for sharing it.
You don't mention a heated humidifier, and I just found this today The role of humification in CPAP therapy - it has refrences (oldish...I'm sure you can use them to find newer ones) in the end, and says, among other things, that mouth leaks can actually create a vicious cycle - dryness which causes congenstion, which causes more mouth breathing , etc.
