With all the bad press...here is a little love for the VA

Post by GrosseGurke » Wed Apr 18, 2007 3:08 pm

I love the Portland Oregon VA. They are always so kind and amazingly helpful. I went in today for a 2 month review and told them that I was looking at getting a new mask because the one I was using wasnt working for me too well (Comfort Curve)...and the nasal mask works better for me but the one they gave me with the machine is uncomfortable. I told her I was looking at the mirage 2..and that it got great reviews. She tells me to hold on a sec and leaves the room...sure enough..she comes back with the a mirage 2 mask...shows me how it hooks up...hands me the manuals..and I am on my way. They dont carry the mask right now but are trying to get a contract with Resmed so they can...and this was a sample they had been given.

With all the bad press the VA seems to be getting...I just wanted to send a little love their way.

I agree with you, the VA has been great about my OSA, much easier and more informative than Private Dr and DME.

I first tried to use my private insurance for everything, but that was painfully slow.

I called the VA to see if they could help, they asked me to send a copy of my first study and based on that they had their DME set me up with an APAP within a week. I waited another month and a half before my private Dr saw me and wrote a script.

Since I have private insurance I try to use that as much as possible to save the VA some money, but Apria sucks so bad that I can't even get them to send me the correct filters for my machine.

Where as the VA has called to see how it was going and based on my medical records they wanted to see if my allergies we acting up and if I would like a full face mask or hybrid since they think I will probably need it during allergy season. How can I say no to service like that? I tried getting a hybrid from Apria and I may as well be trying to get blood from a stone.

If your a Vet, I highly recommend talking to the VA, they have been fantastic.

I use the VA too and have been very happy with the treatment I receive there. I started using them about 4 years ago when I was self employed and could not afford health insurance. About 2 years ago, I was fortunate to get a good job with health insurance. The VA sent me my annual notice to set up a physical so I called and told them I could no longer use them because I had health insurance. They told me to bring in my insurance card and they would bill my insurance. I continue to use them because I have confidence in my Dr and his team. I make enough now that I have a co-pay with them but I am happy to pay it because I feel that their health care is superior to anything else that was available to me.
