Is C-Flex usually the better choice and as quiet ?

Post by Zorro » Sun Apr 03, 2005 10:34 pm

Hi -- Is C-Flex generally the best way to go ? Am just starting out with Cpap -- pressure setting is 6 -- but have found a bit of a bother with exhalation -- have a lung problem -- used the nasal pillow so far.

Used the Remstar Plus and appreciated the quiet -- Does anyone find the C-Flex pressure changing for exhalation increases the noise level ?

Thanks for this forum -- whomever is on the other end of these keys ! !

Hi Zorro,

C-Flex is not quiet...or at least not as quiet as using the REMstar without it. But the comfort on exhalation is worth it.

At your low pressure, you'll feel like you're breathing out into an empty hose. Should help, since you said you have a lung problem.

Thanks Rested Gal -- The machine used in the sleep study was a large, older, plain CPAP and loud, not just "not quiet" -- similar say to hearing a lawnmower just outside your bedroom window ! -- would you estimate the C-Flex to be as loud as that ?

I may have to trade off the quiet for the comfort ..... Thanks again....

Well, "noise" is in the ear of the be-hearer.

But as loud as a lawnmower outside the window? Nah, nothing like that. There are always earplugs, if you find the sound of C-Flex working to be annoying but still want to use it anyway.

What some people say it sounds like is the machine breathing with you. To me it is not very noticeable at all. I think the vent on the Aura is a bit louder than the machine.

Well, this ain't as good as a box of chocolate, but very close -- just brought the little addition home - a new C-Flex - Thanks, for the info -- I feel like all I need is a cape and sword to go with the hose -- Zorro

I'm on the low pressure side of things when using "fixed" cpap (8), and although I have sarcoidosis, I didn't have problems exhaling or was able to cope pretty easily. I'm very sensitive to noise, and found the CFlex was driving me nuts, so I had my DME turn it off. If the noise bothers you more than exhaling against the pressure, it is an option to have it disabled. The noise probably doesn't bug normal people, one of which I am not.

The noise is in the ear of the behearer, RG? Good one!

The sting is in the hand of the bee holder, too.
