My poor nose

Post by kidzda » Tue Apr 05, 2005 4:24 pm

Ok this may sound strange but I think the CPAP is causing my nostrils to become stretched out. I use the mask with the two nose pillows (I hope you know which one I mean.). This was recommened to me because I sleep on my side and the traditional mask was leaking too much. So, this one is great and is less claustraphobic. I like it a lot and can fall asleep easily with it. But, sadly, when I wake up in the morning I notice my nostrils are swollen and I am worried it will permanently change the shape of my nose. And, I actually have a pretty nice looking nose. Maybe it is my imagination but every day it looks like my nostrils are getting bigger. Has anyone had this experience and if so what do you recommend. Chris

Well, in one of my essays on apnea, I did refer to "nasal pillows" as "The name used because 'nostril stretchers' were considered to be a negative marketing move" (or words to that effect).

It really depends on which one you're using. I found the Swift to be most comfortable. On the other hand, the (dis)Comfort Lite felt like it was stretching my nostrils out in preparation for storing softballs, and shoving my nose up into my cranium as though it were retractable.

There are several, though. Nasal Aire II, Comfort Lite, Breeze, Swift, Aura, possibly others.

Liam, nasally cushioned.
