Hepa Filter in Cpap

Post by Yoga » Mon Apr 04, 2005 3:41 am

The avatar is a picture of one of our daughters and 2 grandsons.

Has anyone found that using a hepa filter in an autopap machine helped stop nasal blockage? How often do the hepa filters have to be changed and do they replace both the temporary filter as well as the permanent filter on a Remstar Auto w/cflex?

I already do the usual things such as nasal irrigation and using flonase.

There are 2 filters for the Remstar. A black one and a white one. The White one is suggested to be replaced monthly. The black one is washable. As my machine sits directly above the vent from my Austin Aire whole room hepa filter, I never felt a need to put a filter inline. I did check my white filter and after 2 months it was slightly discolored so I changed it...

Nasal congestion once you lay down is a given (there's a post on this somewhere that explains the whole thing) but basically it has to do with fluid in the body settling in your nose as the lowest point. Most people remedy this by using a steroidal nasal spray RX from their Dr or ENT. Don't use an over the counter spray (OTC). These are not intended for long-term use and will cause rebound big time. The steroidals can be used indefinitely and often last for 24 hours. It also tends to stop the post nasal drip I will often get once I lay down, too.

What also helps is cranking up the heated humidifier...
