Anyone involved in AWAKE?

Post by ITeach » Fri Apr 01, 2005 4:58 pm

I got info from my DME about local AWAKE groups. I am in the Chicago area and there are many groups to choose from. I was just diagnosed 6 weeks ago and have been on APAP for 5 weeks. I was wondering if people have attended the meetings and what I could expect if I attended one. I'm not very good at mingling with new people, but have found groups like Weight Watchers a great support when I need it. I'm also a little leary because I am not a "typical" apnea patient. I am thin, young, and have more issue with hypopneas than totally obstructive events. I have been exhausted for many years and after 5 weeks (and help from some of you) I am beginning to enjoy playing with my young children more than I ever have.

I'm sorry. I guess I'm just feeling a little alone, not knowing anyone else personally that is similar to me that's a hosehead.

Thanks for your input and patience with me.

Sue, who has laughed out loud and cried at the same time while reading this board.

Hi,
No AWAKE here. I think that AWAKE is ASLEEP in most parts with the exception of a few chapters. They depend on DMEs and sleep labs to sponsor chapters. Dave, are you out there ?

Cheers,

Chris

Hi,

I strongly suggest you contact forum member "Wading thru the Muck." Try sending him a private message (PM). There was a meeting in the Chicago area last month, I believe, and there may have been a second one already. Since he's a forum member and an active participant with that group, you ought to contact him for information. If that one isn't suitable, he may well know more about the others. I strongly recommend you contact him about it. He'd be glad to help, I'm sure.
