Serial Port Smart Card Reader

Post by Sleeping With The Enemy » Tue Mar 29, 2005 11:10 pm

Anyone have problems getting the serial port card reader to work when you got it?

Oh, let me guess, I should have gotten the USB instead of trying to save a couple of bucks?

Is there any way to make sure its not my serial port that is bad and not the reader? Or the other way around?

The message I keep getting is that it cannot find the device.

Any suggestions will help or I have to return the thing. I waited 5 days and was so excited to finally be able to download my stuff from the Smart Card and now this.....BUMMER.

Heidi, after you plugged in the serial plug, did you also unplug either your mouse or keyboard and plug the dangling round plug (hangs from the cable of the serial card reader) into the mouse or keyboard port...and then re-plug the mouse or keyboard into the back of the round plug...piggyback style? Took me forever to realize the dangling round plug had to be plugged in too.

I don't know about the serial card reader, but what I suspect is that the driver might not be installed correctly. Have you installed the serial card reader driver that came with the package?
I know that serial port is not smart like the USB port, so whatever you connect to it (eg. card reader) might not be seen by your computer (unlike USB port), so you have to install the devicce driver manually.
I don't do mornings !!!

Respironics says you don't need software for the serial port reader, only the USB reader.

Rested Gal, I tried that an nothing.....

Heidi,
Encore Pro has a selection for the COM port to be used with the Serial Reader on it's Preferences menu. Have you checked that you are using the correct port?

PM me if I can be of help...

I called Respironics and they went through numerous setting changes and tried lots of different things and finally told me that the reader must be junk.
