Well I received my new 431 mask and goodnight 420E auto. To put it bluntly compared to my Resmed Spirit w/ ultra Mirage mask, "They Suck" or should I say BLOW. HARD ! They should name them HOOVER.
The 420E w/431 mask is loud. The air rushing in and BLASTING into your mouth. And thats at only 5cm. I then tried my old resmed ultra mirage mask and it was alot quieter . But not as smooth as the spirit.
I then tried the FP 431 mask with the Resmed Spirit . Not quite as loud but as the pressure increased the seal gave up. The Spirit thought I took the mask off and shut off.
I like the size of the Goodnight 420E. It fits easily on the night stand. It is quiet at lower cms. I may get used to it but I'm affraid its a step backwards in comfort from the Spirit. Its just too harsh. The Spirit is Smooth. Thats the best way to explain it. It doesn't blow you up. The Ultra Mirage mask is comfortable and seals well with very little pressure on your face. I guess I'll try a ultra mirage full face mask next.
Any feedback is appreciated.

Hi Chris,
What pressure range is your Spirit set at (high and low pressures)? I'm sure you've checked, but is your 420E set at the same pressures as your Spirit? Do you have ramp turned off on both machines?
I've never tried the F&P HC 431 full face mask. I've used the ResMed Ultra Mirage FF mask with the 420E - no problem (my range was set at 8-16...usually staying around 8 or 9 all night, rarely going up to 13 or 14 briefly on occasions.)
If "harsh" is describing how forcefully the pressure is hitting you with one machine as opposed to the other machine, when wearing the same mask with both, that sounds like the pressure is set differently on the two machines. Putting these expensive puzzle pieces together in a way to get comfortable treatment sure can be difficult sometimes. I hope you get a good combo going for you soon. I know how frustrating it can be.

Hi chrisp,
I agree with rested gal's suspitions. I can understand a difference in noise level, but one machine should not blow harder than another at the same pressure. Do you know how to check the pressure settings on you PB420E? Do you have the software that works with the PB. If you need some help with checking your settings or using the software, post a reply and I'm sure we can help.
If you check the settings and they seem to be OK your machine might also need to be calibrated.
As far as you mask selection I'll leave that to RG.
Good Luck!

420E vs Spirit
Well today I tried the Ultra Mirage mask with the 420E. I have to say there isnt much difference (from spirit) except for the noise. The hose seems to telegraph the machine noise to the mask. Also, the 420E seems to change pressure in .5 cm increments. I still think the spirit is smoother . Thats how I discribe it. I've had my spirit over 2 years and can really tell the difference for whatever its worth.
The FP HR 431 mask is loud on both units. And the air is aimed directly into my mouth ! I will not buy another. Going to order a ultra mirage full face .
Now for the bad news.. My spirit has a problem..Will not heat the humidair . Not giving it power..Called Resmed today . They says its out of warranty by 3 months but they will cover it if I send it right away..Thanks Brett at Resmed ! I'll be on the 420e till my spirit returns from its maker.
Thats my latest 2 cents.
