Just a quick question. I just got my remstar auto last week and the other night I put the mask on and started to breathe, but the unit did not turn on automatically. Is this something that the
DME has to set or that can be set by the user?
Maybe I wasn't breathing hard enough?

It's automatic and should start after three breaths.
(They need to be good breaths though...)
Trying is the first step towards failure.

I gave up after one breath. I'll have to try it again tonight.
By the way, I love your username...took me a while to get it though!

murried, you're right - you probably weren't breathing hard enough. And as Hugh said, sometimes takes several breaths. I prefer to just turn my on myself. I don't like to breathe into an "empty" mask those extra few seconds, nor do I like for it to suddenly come on if I've put the mask on and am fiddling with the mask a bit.

I don't like breathing into an empty mask either...I just thought that something might be wrong with my machine.

Depending on the mask, sometimes you have to breathe deeper. With my
ResMed FF mask I had to breath very deeply because of the anti-asphyxia valve. On my
Aura, as soon as I get it placed properly and breathe in and out, it starts up.
