Masks

Post by jds918 » Tue Nov 16, 2004 9:58 am

After a year of CPAP I am at a pressure of 20. At 18.5 I had 63 desats under 3 min and 24 over. Needless to say I am fighting my mask and looking for more comfort. I have used a mirage full face, broke too easily and repeatedly. I am now using a serentiy nasal mask that came with my machine. From reading past postings the activa and the breeze seem most favored. Has any one else had to use these high pressures with these masks? Has anyone tried the CPAP pro advantage with the mouthpice to hold it in place? Is ther a favored full face mask? thanks Jack

I've not heard good things about the cpappro mouthpiece interface.

Just as a test, I once tried my Breeze and my Activa with my autopap set to run at a straight 19. Both held their seal just fine.

At a pressure of 20 (or even 18 ) it sounds like you're a candidate for a bipap machine instead of a straight cpap machine.

I know you've been trying hard - it's tough up at such high pressures. Do talk to your doctor about a BiPap. That can give you some relief on each exhalation. Good luck!

JACK !! you are a better man than me. Shoooooo Weeeeeee Cpap at 18.5 pressure !!!! I tried Bipap at 18/14. WOE ! thought I was going to split in half. How on earth can you handle that ? My sleep study showed that I had a good response to the therpy at 18/14 but I just could not handle it. How do you exhale against that pressure?
have a good day (and night)

Rich, It has taken me over a year to get my pressures up that high. I live at an elevation of 6800 ft when I am in Colorado. I have developed a good lung capacity from playing at even higher. I start my ramp up at 13 now .I am going to have my machine checked this week to see if it really is showing accurate readings. I also hope to do an over night pulse oxymeter while I am here too. I am taking Mirapex now too and want to see if that is changing my patterns also. My other home is in Boise Idaho at 2300 ft. I seem to sleep better here at elevation for some reason. Jack

pressures

Post by jds918 » Thu Nov 18, 2004 1:29 pm

I had my machine checked this morning and it's actual pressure is 5% lower than it is showing. So I am actually at 19 rather than the 20, it is set at. I have reached the point where I don't even notice that I am breathing against it. Current nasal mask is just a bit small though and has a tendency to cause one nostril to be closed If it moves sideways.
How do I determine which size nasal pillow is right for me? Jack
