Activa

Post by Paul » Tue Nov 16, 2004 11:59 pm

I have to say that the experience of masks is a very personal thing. I have been searching for the best mask for me and finally got the Activa because it gets so many great reviews from other users.

I am sorry to report that I am not finding it to be all that great. For my preference it is just too big. The bottom of the mask bellow comes down over my mouth and there just seems to be so much skin contact from the huge surface area. The size and all the skin contact makes me hot and sweaty. It obscures my vision and it doesn't seem to work that well to keep the hose over your head - which is my preferred position.

I am glad it works for so many people but it is true that one person's dream mask can be horrible for someone else.

I think I might try the Simplicity next. I really want to find something small that works.

Hi Paul,

Your right about it being a personal decision.

Thanks for posting about all the specifics that bothers you about the Activa.

I can't disagree with any of your points and if things such as minimal skin contact and high visability are your top priorities then the Activa may not be for you.

Good to hear all the pros and cons so people can decide for themselves.

Thanks!
Sincerely,

Thanks for the comments. Has anyone had a good experience with the Simplicity?

I tried the simplicity mask when I was first starting CPAP therapy back in June, and I didn't like it because I felt like I was suffocating or something due to the low volume of air inside the mask itself. It's probably just psychosomatic, but nonetheless it wasn't the right mask for me. Like others have said regarding this thread, though, choosing a mask is a very personal thing and it's just a matter of trying many different ones until you find one that is comfortable for you.

Simplicity

I'm using it. I'm "nasally challenged" (Too small nose and upper lip). I like the fact it's smaller than the rest. I've only used it for a few days and it's a loaner on trial, but so far I like it. Headgear is a challenge though, last night I couldn't get a seal only to discover this morning that one of the velcros had come undone. Make sure it's all closed properly.

Cleaning is a breeze, except unless you get all the water out of the tiny hose, when you put it on at night for about 5 minutes you get little spits of water until the air dries it up. Tonight I think I'll run a little piece of fabric down the tube to catch those tiny droplets.
