First Post and Software Question

Post by RAINSUX » Mon Feb 19, 2007 7:36 pm

Hello, Folks! My name is Sam and I’m new here. First, thanks for sharing your experiences and suggestions. I don’t feel like I’m alone in this anymore. I’ve had my CPAP for about two months and I think I’m doing fine. I’m sleeping through the night with it most nights now. So far the main changes I’m seeing is that I no longer wake up exhausted, and I no longer have that strong urge to take a nap at work after lunch.

The VA is my provider, and their policy seems to be “give them a CPAP and leave them alone.” I received very little orientation, and I confirmed last week that they will never call me in to read my Smartcard, or otherwise monitor my progress. But I AM encouraged to call or visit if I’m having problems or if my equipment malfunctions. I guess that’s something….. I consider myself lucky to have won the crapshoot and received a good setup on the first try. I don’t know if they would have changed masks or anything if it hadn’t worked.

Most of what I know I learned by reading this forum. You probably have no idea how many people you help by freely sharing information and making it available to everybody.

I am a computer geek and a confirmed tweaker of anything mechanical. So now I’m interested in getting a card reader and software, knowing now that I’m the only one who is going to improve things. Since I am not going to get any follow-up, I don’t feel bad about trying new things or changing the settings. I have already ordered the provider setup manual for my CPAP. I see the package deal for the card reader and Encore Pro software. Is this the recommended package, or are there others that I should consider? I’m also not sure what to look for, or what to do about it when I gather data, but I’m sure there will be help here when I’m ready for it.

Thank you again for being such a friendly, sharing group. You’ll be hearing from me again.

Sam

I assume that you have a Resperonics machine?
If so get your smartcard reader here for only $24 USD

Rain,

Its great that you want to take care of your own treatment. I also started a few months ago.

If you fill in your profile then we can better tell you about your machine!

Maybe it will work this time. I did fill it out when I joined, but when I went back it was blank. I just set it up again.

Quite a price difference. Thanks! Yes, it's a Remstar Pro 2 with CFlex, so I assume the lower priced reader will work with it.

The V.A. seems to use that machine quite a lot as a vet, I'm glad tosee it as it's good, and better than most people get. I got one like it from my INS.

The software Encore Pro, is available here at CPAP.COM, or parent site. The best price on the reader (DT3500) as jskinner said postal will bring it to $30+, the sites a hassle but it saves $$$. At the 2factors site download the special driver for the Encore Pro, just in case, don't use the one that comes with the reader. welcome! Jim
