Retrieving Data From Smart Card
Retrieving Data From Smart Card
I've got the Encore Pro set to NOT delete data from the Smart Card.
I downloaded the last 4 days worth of data tonight and when I went for the detailed report, got an error message and there was only compliance data for the 4 nights. So, under the assumption that I've still got the data stored on the card, I tried to download the data again, and EP acted as if it had already done the download. I then deleted the "interaction" in Encore Pro and tried to download the data again. Nothing comes off the card and there's no record of the last 4 nights any more in either EP or EPA.
Three Questions:
If Encore Pro's set to not delete the data from the Smart Card, how do I access the data once I've already downloaded to EP?
Did I delete the data from the card when I told EP to "delete interaction?"
Is there a way to access the Smart Card to see what data are stored on it, how much memory is available, etc.?
Thanks,
--Andy

In EP if you delete interaction it removes the data from the data base FOREVER.
If your EP is set up to not delete data from the card, after the download, it will ask if you want to delete the card, if you do it's gone... Jim
Is there a way to access the Smart Card to see what data are stored on it, how much memory is available, etc.? No, it will just hold 7 days or less of the good data, then it overwrites the data. Take one lose, one style.
If you don't erase the card, you can redownload the card, the data stays on the card until erased or overwritten.

Andy,
When you selected the interaction download date, did you select the "Full Details"? It defaults to "compliance" information. If you haven't erased the card, you should still be able to download again from the card.

Thanks Jim,
I have EP set so that it does NOT erase the data (I went into the EP directory and clicked on the "do not erase" file) but I get still nothing when I try to download the "smart" card now.
This is really bumming me out because I was testing some different settings & slept under different conditions last night, trying to get a multi-day dataset for optimizing my treatment. Now I don't even have compliance data....
Theoretically the data should still be on the card and I should be able to download it as if I never downloaded the data before... right?
Thanks,

Sometimes the M-Series auto takes a 1-2 day break from recording data for no discernable reason. I didn't experience this problem at first but now it's affecting me.
Now when you say you get "nothing" what do you mean exactly? I assume you're getting a compliance download in interactions, and then when you double click it and do a full details report, those days are just missing, even though they show compliance info?
If so, join our party all up in here.

Andy,
When it's finished downloading, does it come up with a little message window asking you if you want to erase the card?
If you've actually actuated the "Don't erase after download" option, it'll give you that option. If not, maybe it didn't take when you tried to activate it...... ????

Like Den Said, I had trouble because I was running a program that protected the Reg, Encore Pro couldn't change the Reg, until I disabled the program, I can't tell you what it was, I should have noted it, It will probably come back to haunt me again. Security can come back and bite us. I can't network mine together anymore, I reformatted one, but the main is still sick Jim

thanks for the tips guys.
When I originally downloaded the data, I clicked "full details" and got only compliance data with a blank sheet where the nightly details graphs usually are.
When I try to re-download the data, I get absolutely nothing.
After regular smart card data downloads I get no message asking whether I want to erase the data.
It appears that the "do not delete" selection didn't take for me.
Jim - how did you get your PC to let you set the "do not delete"?
Thanks,
--Andy

Andy, here are my notes to Not Erase:
There's a program/file in C:\Program Files\Respironics\Encore Pro\Utilities called "Don't erase data after download.reg". Do a double-click on it and it will come up with a confirmation box.....click "Yes" and that should keep your card from being automatically erased.
If you activate this Don't Erase, then every time you download data, a box will pop up and ask you if you want to erase or not. If you don't see that box, then it is automatically still in the erase mode.

Thanks Linda.
I'm certain that I did that originally when I installed EP but just did it again just to make sure. It added the information in the "Don't erase data after download.reg" file to the registry. There's no indication of whether the information's been added, or not, previously.
Thanks again,
-Andy

I have a kind of related problem. I just got an APAP with the smarrtcard under two weeks ago.
I set up EncorePro on my desktop and my laptop. I think I forgot to run the do not erase program just after I installed it on my laptop. But until a week ago I always downloaded to my desktop first so it did not matter. but then I downloaded to my laptop first and then tried to do so on my PC which is when I discovered the problem.
Since I had all the data on my laptop, I exported the patient file and imported it into my desktop.
I have six downloads (interactions?) and I can view full details of each one individually for the day or two that they cover. But in EncorePro I cannot select a time period covering all the days. When I select the select days period and input the first and last day that has data, I get an error message saying I must use a valid time period.
If I use MyEncore or Encore Pro Analyzer then I can get charts for multiple days. What am I doing wrong?

TANSTAF1,
You're not doing anything wrong. EncorePro will not tie different interaction downloads together to let you view long term data. That is the main reason that My Encore and Encore Pro Analyzer were developed.

In Encore Pro you can only view one downloads (interactions?) at a time, the other programs were designed to overcome this problem.
Andy, I forrget which program I run locks REG changes, but you might try restarting in the "SAFE MODE" to install the unlock. Jim
