Looking for relief- itching from silicon

Post by sleepingbetter0209 » Sun Jun 07, 2026 7:49 pm

I have used a CPAP hybrid silicon mask (Resmed Airfit F-40) for 2 years and have achieved good therapy; however, recently I have stopped using a 3rd party liner because it was interfering with my seal. So I started using a cushion without a liner about 2 weeks ago. I notice that my skin itches right around below my lower lip and the nasal margins. I do wash my face and shave before bed, as that helps. Anyone with suggestions who has sensitivities to silicon? I would love to hear your skin prep or routine that is helpful.

I clean where the Airfit F40 touches my skin with Enduro Cleansing Prep Pads and I don't have any irritation. I do hope, however, that Resmed someday makes an Airtouch F40.

I've been using the AirFit F30 Full Face CPAP Mask for six years, and in the last two weeks, have developed an itchy red mark on the bridge of my nose. I've tried washing with soap and water and vaseline before bed, but it doesn't seem to get any better. Any recommendations? Best, Bob

The primary replacement for the F30, the F30i, is a hybrid FF mask which doesn't cover the bridge of your nose. It comes in AirFit (no foam edge) and AirTouch (foam edged) varieties.

Another replacement for the F30 is the F40. The most significant difference between them is where the tube attaches: the F30i attaches on the top of your head (great for side sleepers who turn), while the F40 attaches in the front (great for back sleepers).

I will throw this idea out for thought. Years ago people used a very thin barrier of Phillips Milk of Magnesia on their skin when there was some irritation from the silicon rubbing on the skin.

You apply a very thin barrier and let it totally dry before put the mask on. Apply the liquid on the areas of the skin that are having a problem. No need to put it anywhere else. It shouldn't make the leaks worse like the liners can sometimes do.
