ResMed AirTouch F30i Ongoing Saga

Post by Amishboy51 » Thu Apr 09, 2026 6:36 am

My issues with my new mask (as well as new machine, ResMed AirSense 11) continue. Last night, there were multiple problems. For one, although I used the Mask Fit function when I went to bed, when I woke up around 3 a.m., it almost felt as the machine had either turned itself off or was barely providing pressure. I spent the next several hours trying to manually turn it on (rather than using the SmartStart) and checking the Mask Fit; frequently, it would seem to toggle, often for just seconds, between "mask fit is great" and "mask needs adjusting" messages.

Second, it often felt as the pressure wasn't adjusting. The APAP settings are 12-20, yet each time I manually turned it off and then back on (so I could check the mask fit), it would show the pressure was starting in the low 12s, but 15 minutes later it was only slightly higher, still in the low 12s.

Finally, I checked the results in OSCAR this morning, and to me, it didn't seem as dramatically different as I expected. I thought it was one of the worst nights I'd experienced since a power outage 12 years ago, but I have no theory as to what's going on (or not going on).

I'll try to attach a couple OSCAR files, including a two-week overview, as a frame of reference. Any thoughts, comments, suggestions, etc., would be appreciated.

To best check mask fit you should use the Mask Fit feature in the My Options menu of your machine.

The flow patterns shown in your OSCAR report indicate classic Respiratory Effort-Related Arousals (RERA.) More on RERAs here and here.

You already know it, but you really need to fix those large leaks. They represent almost 1/3 of your sleep session in the OSCAR report above. The machine can't—and won't'—accurately detect, report and effectively treat obstructive events during periods of Large Leaks (i.e. leaks above 24L/minute.)

Thank you for the reply, and I agree that I definitely need to reduce the mask leaks.

But I’m confused; you say that I need to “use the Mask Fit feature,” but isn’t that possible only when I go to bed (and maybe when I happen to wake up during the night)?

Because that’s what I’m doing now, and I don’t see how it helps much. It tells me that the seal is “great,” but obviously that’s only at that moment. Despite the great fit message, when I get up in the morning, OSCAR shows very extensive large leaks. Am I not using Mask Fit correctly?
