Resmed P30i mask, need help

Post by Star51 » Sun Apr 05, 2026 7:32 pm

Hi,

I am new to this forum.

I have been doing CPAP for about 6 years. I have a Resmed Airsense 10 machine.

I have just ordered and received a NEW Resmed P30i mask. The nose pillows have a vent over them that is making me clautrophopic and I can not sleep with the new mask, can not get enough air.....and I start coughing and rip it off my head.

My last mask I used for 2 years was also a Resmed P30i mask, and because the same thing happened, I got my nail scissors and CUT off the little vent part at the front to remove the barrier and the vent cushion. I have to say that that worked so wonderful, and I was very happy with the mask for the whole two years and got good sleeps.

After 3 sleepless nights with this new mask, I ready to get out the nail scissors and do the same thing. However, I have just joined this forum and would like to find out what other folks think?

Please note I do not have a support team, as here in Canada they charge way too much money for their membership, and they charge 4 times the cost for replacement gear too, which I can easily order online for a reduced cost.

I know how to adjust my own machine, and it is at 6-16 range.

It is just the new mask driving me crazy, and I want to cut the vent off so I can vent enought air in and out.

Also, I wonder about the little cushion in the vent on the nose pillows, how would it possible get it clean because the fabric will not detach.

After 3 sleepless nights with this new mask, I ready to get out the nail scissors and do the same thing. However, I have just joined this forum and would like to find out what other folks think?

Thanks for any feedback.

I use the P30i as well as the N30i. I'm not sure what you mean by the little vent thing that you cut. Two thoughts. It would be worthwhile to either upload an OSCAR screenshot, or create a sleep HQ account so others can see what's going on.

You might want to increase your minimum pressure, and or the starting pressure for the ramp. I feel the same way when the pressure is to low. For me that's anything below about 9. Most prescriptions use 4cm for the minimum. Its way too low for an adult. If you use EPR you need to increase the minimum pressure by the amount of EPR because it subtracts from the minimum. I don't use ramp because I'm more comfortable at my minimum pressure than below it.

Regarding the removable vent with the paper. Resmed indicates that this can be washed, it just needs to be well dried before you use it again. I just wash it along with the pillows. The paper is removable with tweezers, it will be more noisy but will work OK without it, perhaps with a little larger static leak. The machine will compensate.

Finally, you might want to try the N30i instead. You can just swap the cushion, the masks are identical except for the cushion so you can purchase just the cushion without buying the whole mask. There are two styles of these, the Airfit and the AirTouch. I greatly prefer the AirTouch version since its made of cloth. These cover the bottom of your nose rather than sticking into the nostrils. I find them easier breathing and less claustrophobic.

I don't advise modifying the mask vent. These are designed to vent enough air to keep CO2 from building up, while still providing pressure for therapy. Vents should only let air out. If the machine is not delivering enough air, try adjusting the machine as mlmollenkamp suggested.

these are great suggestions thank you.

I think I will start with adjusting the ramp, which is at a low 5, it does seem I am not getting enough air when the ramp is happening, last night I verified this.

I don't know how to access or to print the reports, it that located somewhere in the Resmed My Air app? I can't find anything too useful in that app.

any more suggestions are welcome please!

thanks

UPDATE: I just found the Resmed AirTouch N30i Nasal CPAP Mask Cushion here https://cpapsupply.ca/product/resmed-ai ... k-cushion/

this looks more comfortable.

I am wondering if I should order in the medium size, airfit one I use is size medium

thanks

To get the data from your machine you will need to install an SD data card (unless there is already one present). It doesn't have to be big, anything from 8 GB to 32 GB will work. The machine will record to the card and you can look at it with either OSCAR or Sleep HQ. Once you have that you can see the all the details which your machine diligently records. The cellular radio only reports the most basic information, the detailed data is on the card.
