Auto on/off: consensus on reliability? (Airsense 11)

Post by dh37 » Fri Feb 20, 2026 9:39 am

I stopped using the auto on/off feature on my AS 10 when I realized it wasn't perfectly realiable. I have an AS 11 now, and it's still turned off. Problem is, _I'm_ not perfectly reliable either, and was thinking of turning it on again.

Is there a consensus as to the reliability of this feature?

What is it doing (the auto on feature) that makes you feel it is unreliable?

I have been using it for almost 6 years on my AS10 without problems. What does "reliable" mean?

Reliable means that you can count on who or what it is constantly working when ever you need it with out fail. As for the consensus I haven’t had my 11 long enough to experience feature but I noticed it came on once when I put my mask on and I didn’t press the on button.

On the AS10 at least I find that the reliability of auto on/off is mask dependent. With top feed like the P30i or Dreamwear pillows mine tends to turn on unexpectedly if the mask is moved around. In general I think its most reliable with high flow masks, i.e. full face.

It’s decent but not perfect. Sometimes it misses a breath or two before kicking in, so I wouldn’t fully rely on it.

Auto on and off on the AirSense 11 is generally reliable for convenience, but it still depends on detecting stable breathing and a good mask seal, so leaks, shallow breathing, or moving the mask can confuse it. Many people leave it off simply because manual start is more predictable and avoids random shutdowns during the night. If your mask fit is solid and you don’t have large leaks it can work fine, but it’s more of a comfort feature than something essential for therapy.

My experience is with the AS10 and a nasal mask. Auto on only fails when I fail to seat the humidifier properly. Auto off never gets the chance to fail, because I switch it off manually to avoid the noise.
