Risks of using Cpap

Post by AnxiousME » Wed Jan 28, 2026 12:40 pm

Can the longterm use of Cpap cause abdominal pains and Laryngitis conditions?

Which Cpap and mask is effective?

What causes coughs whilst using a Cpap?

no. have been on CPAP for ten years and no health problems that can be attributed to it's use.

masks are highly individual and you may have to try several until you find the one for you. if you are a mouth breather, a full face mask would probably be better for you. if you are a nose breather, either a nasal mask or nasal pillows. there is no overall BEST, though many folks will tell the one THEY use is best.

here at the forum, members prefer the resmed line of CPAP machines. the airsense 10 autoset machine is well thought of.

why do you think CPAP will cause you to cough?

17 years for me...Never any of the pains that you mentioned.
The best mask is the one that fits you the best without major leaks.
Mouth breathing can cause coughs...it drys out your throat

There is only one risk of using CPAP - breaking a toe by dropping the machine on your foot.

About your abdominal pain, are you talking about air leaking into your stomach causing gas? That can happen.

Laryngitis? If you are breathing through your mouth, your throat could become dried out.

I've only used CPAP for a couple of years and appreciate your questions. I questioned early in my CPAP therapy if prolonged CPAP use will have negative consequences. I definitely thought it would, at least, take any spontaneity in the physical with my wife! In my first year I tried several different masks. Currently I use the F&P Solo nasal pillow for night use with my AirSense 11 and the ResMed P10 mask with my AirMini. I can honestly say that any of my early worries, questions and discomfort have disappeared with time. The end of my snoring and the reduction of sleep apnea events has significantly improved sleep time, with all the trimmings, for the both of us! Work with the CPAP professional who prescribed and/or supplied your machine. They have the expertise to setup your equipment to maximise your personal comfort and safety.

I'm sorry to ask this here, but how does one contact the admins of this site? I went to the "private messages" section, and it says I cannot private message yet since I haven't posted enough. Does anyone have an email contact for the admins? Thanks!

now that you've made your first public post, you can now do private. it's just the way the forum software does it.

First mistake: Going completely off-topic in someone's post. Forgivable.

Second mistake: Telling our admin how this site should be run. Don't make this one.
