Very Noisy Full Face CPAP Mask

Post by s_beecher1 » Thu Jan 08, 2026 11:23 am

My husband's very noisy CPAP mask is disrupting my sleep. I also have a CPAP with no issues. But his full face mask not only makes whooshing noises, but it also, at regular intervals, makes noises like an semi truck idling next to the bed. I started sleeping in the guest room. He asked for and got a new mask, the Amara full face mask made by Phillips. Only it is just as bad!!

Has anyone had this issue? And what fixes it? Thanks so much for any advice!!!

First, and most obvious, is it adjusted properly? I.e. when air pressure increases during the night does it leak out between his face and the mask?

Also, check the hose for leaks, rips, tears etc. Especially if it's of unknown age or if you have pets with claws or teeth.

Was his previous mask an Amara too? If so, did he replace the elbow between the hose and mask too? It contains a little flapper, that Philips calls the "anti-asphyxia valve", that opens to let in ambient air when the ventilator shuts off and closes when air pressure is applied. Since it moves, it follows that it can also wear out and/or make noise.
