Whistling FF Mask Wakes Me Up - Mask Rainout
Whistling FF Mask Wakes Me Up - Mask Rainout
I use a F&P Vitera FF mask with my Resmed AirSense 10 Auto. I've finally got the mask adjusted that leaks are at a minimum, but it seems in doing so any excess moisture in the mask is trying to escape through the vent holes in the frame and when it does it creates a sound like a tiny whistling teapot. When the mask leaked around the face seal the moisture escaped there and probably not so much through the vent holes and there was no whistle. I had the humidity and hose temp set on auto when this started and have tried a lower humidity (6-7) with a hose temp around 82-84 deg, but it still whistles and wakes me. If I get up during the night for a bathroom trip I wipe down the inside of the mask and all is good for a while until the moisture builds up again. I'm going to try a lower humidity setting (maybe down to around 3-4), but I'm looking for ideas for what I can to stop the whistle if anyone has any ideas beyond a low humidity setting which may leave me dryer than I like.

Do you use a heated hose or a hose cover? https://www.cpap.com/products/resmed-ai ... s=e&_v=1.0

Heated hose as noted set at 82-84 deg. No hose cover. No gurgling in the hose as 'rainout', so the hose seems to be doing what it should and does feel slightly warm to the touch. The condensation is occurring in the mask. I've kinda wondered if the humidifier heat is not being regulated by the dial setting as it should as the water usage seems the same whether the humidity dial is set at Auto, 6-7 or 4. I'm guessing the sensor in the hose senses the humidity and maybe if that isn't functioning correctly it could call for more humidity than what the dial setting calls for. I have a spare heated hose I'll likely give a try to see if there's a difference. In the 5 years I had a DreamStation 2 with the Vitera mask I never had this issue, so something is different.

FWIW and if it helps anyone else I ohm'ed out the connections on two hoses and they were comparable, so likely not an issue with the hose.
The sensor in the hose appears inversely temperature sensitive (temp goes up, resistance decreases. temp goes down, resistance increases). Measurement shown is at room temp, approximately 68F.
