F40 Mask Leaks

Post by Hannibal 2 » Mon Oct 06, 2025 2:16 am

I love the F40 mask, but disappointed that the cushion has developed leaks this past 3 nights after less than 2 months use. It's the farty leaks that you just can't adjust out and to me, it's an indicator that the cushion has deteriorated and needs replacing. I wash the cushion and my face every night to help with the seal, I have run 'mask fit' a couple of times and thought I'd got it right, but it's still leaking.

Has anyone else had this issue with the F40?
Is there a fix apart from boiling it?

I could try reducing the pressure and/or the humidity a couple of notches but I shouldn't need to, as it was working fine before.

TIA

Often those "farty" leaks during the night are from moisture that builds up on your face. Try removing or pulling the mask away from your face and wiping the cushion and your face with a tissue or cloth before replacing it. This is common with lots of masks with silicone cushions.

Thank you for responding. To be honest, I have been tweaking my humidity settings up just lately to try and find the sweet spot. I did notice a little moisture, so you're likely correct. I currently have humidity at 5 and heated tube at 28c. I'll turn them both down a notch tonight and see if it helps.

How are you washing it?
Try washing less, maybe just an occasional wipe with a baby wipe.

Cleaning too often is one of the biggest factors to supplies wearing out quickly.

Just a couple of drops of hand soap in some warm water, for the mask and face then rinse well, shake and leave to dry.

I was terrible for cleaning my CPAP equipment for years. Now I have some ENT issues, I don't know if they're Pap related but I'm trying to eliminate it by being extra vigilant with cleaning. In particular, I've noticed recently that pink mold can quickly grow in the humidifier. I read an article that suggested pink mold can cause some ENT issues. So I've just started cleaning the humidifier and tube weekly, first in soapy water and then a white vinegar and warm water soak.

Have I gone too much the other way? Depends what you read and who you listen to I guess.

I've dropped my heated hose temperature one notch to 27c, so will see if that helps tonight.

Lets listen to a peer-reviewed study.

That's a very interesting study and puts things into perspective. It's very easy to get caught up in the 'must clean' narrative and like I said, I never used to clean equipment much at all. My ENT issues are likely caused by other factors having read this.

Thank you very much for sharing.
