Traveling Cases

Post by Kiralynx » Mon Sep 01, 2025 12:42 am

Well, the deed is done.

I put down the deposit for the luxury part of the vacation I've been planning for 21 years.

Now to plan the REST of the vacation at my more NORMAL budget!

When I first visited the Canadian Rockies with my husband in 2004, we stopped at the overlook for the Spiral Tunnels. Harry was a design engineer, AND a train buff. He sat there for hours watching trains go in and out, and then said, "I want to take a train through those tunnels."

I located the Rocky Mountaineer. Yup, luxury. Yup, expensive. But we figured if we didn't take some other vacations, we could swing it by 2008. Except that 2008 was when I was diagnosed with cancer. ANd sleep apnea. So we didn't go. Harry said, "We'll keep saving, and we'll go in 2013, when you're declared cancer-free."

Except 2013 was the year of the washouts, and the trains weren't running. By 2014, there was the problem of our senior Dachshund, Mr. Shadow. He was 16, and neither of us could bring ourselves to board him for several weeks, because apart from the tour, we wanted to spend extra time in the mountains. By the next year, Shadow was at the Rainbow Bridge, but my Dad was 91 and not doing the best.

So I said, "We'll go when you retire." Harry retired in 2020... and before we could plan the trip, Covid hit. By the time it was starting to clear... Harry left me, joining Mr. Shadow and Master Harper, another Dachshund at the Bridge.

2026 should have been our 50th Wedding Anniversary. So I'm coming up, doing the luxury tour and some not so luxury stuff for the fun of it, and I'll hope Harry can see it all through my eyes.

Now, when I went up in 2004, I wasn't needing a mobility scooter. Nor did I have my ASV. And I didn't travel with a lap top.

So, anyone got any recommendations for a good carry-on which will hold BOTH my laptop AND my ASV? (Anyone what thinks I would check either of those is out of their pea-pickin' minds!)

I put my Resmed AirSense 10 in its carrying bag in a Samsonite trolly, where fits in the bottom. My laptop goes into a backpack made for computers. If airline personnel suggest I check the trolly in, I say I have medical equipment there that I"m not letting go of, and all is well. The "computer bag" is not considered "carry on luggage" on the airlines I fly.
Computer backpacks have dedicated padded compartments for the computer (and some nowadays have one for a tablet as well...)

Do you need everything in one case because of how you pack the case on the scooter?

Ozij,

I can't do backpacks... my back won't tolerate them. Otherwise I know of a great one which I gifted a friend for her birthday. My friend loves this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CZ6DWVDR?re ... tle_3&th=1

I want a single case because I only have two hands. I use one to handle the throttle and the brake on the scoot, and the other hand rolls the carry-on alongside. When I see what I end up with, the carry-on MIGHT fit under the scoot seat.

This is the one my daughter bought me. She spent several weeks in Europe out of her little carry-on , did a lot of research before she went and said this kind was what was most recommended and what worked well for her.

Before my husband passed we were going to travel. We had bought a small travel trailer and were going to see the National Parks and such. So many plans cut short by 2020 and covid. In 2023 my husband passed we had just had the travel trailer detailed and we were ready to go for a long weekend test run when he suddenly didn't wake up one morning.

After I came out of the initial shock I planned a trip to Utah and Zion on my own. I took just the car staying in hotels. Sad to say that while the park was beautiful I did not have a good time. It was lonely, I was anxious every step of the way, I do not like traveling by myself. When I got back I sold the travel trailer and let that dream go.

In October I'm going to New Orleans with my daughter and son in law. we are flying (which is why she brought me the carry-on) and it will be completely different from the type of traveling my husband and I planned. I am already anxious about flying and worried about not being able to keep up with them. We shall see how it goes. If I like it, I may attempt to book some small vacations to other cities I wanted to see.

anyway basically I just wanted to say good luck and I hope you have a good time.

Got it.
Thanks for the link, Kira - and wishing you a successful trip!

That looks like a very nice case, and would definitely keep the CPAP safe. Probably the computer, too, but it may be a nuisance getting through security, having to remove both from it. How did you find it worked?

I fully understand th loneliness. Two friends are going with me on the Canada trip, so that will help.

Enjoy your NOLA visit -- it's where I'm writing from!

Thank you. I'm looking forward to NOLA.

I just got it for my birthday last month so I haven't had a chance to use it yet. It seems very simple and straightforward.
