Using battery with my cpap on plane trip

Post by jcoleman1967 » Wed Aug 13, 2025 6:56 am

I am going on a trip to Italy in a month and never used a cpap on a plane. Which batteries work the best? Do you just keep the battery and machine on the floor? Using Luna 3 machine and flying American Airlines. Thanks for any suggestions.

I don't use CPAP for long flights. Survived many international flights.

I bought a Medistrom about 5 years ago for a flight to Dublin.
Wish I hadn't. It's very heavy and wasn't cheap. Some people have had luck getting seated close to an outlet, depending on the layout of the plane. Can't hurt to ask You're not going to sleep well anyway. Unless it it's a red eye flight, no chance of getting any more than a nap anyway.

If you are tempted to try FifthAvenue's example, sleep tonight as a trial in a recliner without using CPAP.

I also avoid using my device on board. But why use a battery when so many planes now have AC receptacles? I believe there is a battery size limitation.
AirSence 10 Autoset, Dreamstation 2 backup, Swift FX, Z1 for travel.

If your AHI is ~80 without CPAP IIWY I'd be checking oximetry doing this. You should be at least a little better sitting up, but why guess.

Agreed, if they have an oximeter.

Many will feel like shit the next morning and need to think about feeling like that the first day in Italy.

On the other hand, some will get out of the recliner after two hours and get in the bed with CPAP.

My approach is to sleep at home with PAP up until the moment I have to head to the airport and then to have booked a room to sleep in as soon as I get where I'm flying to. That way my time on a crowded plane can be used for productive purposes that don't directly conflict with the spirit of my situational awareness training during the time that the air marshal pretends to sleep.

But then, I've never flown JFK to Singapore or anything.

We've done JFK to Milan 5 times. Fly Emirates.
