BIPAP Noise

Post by Mike20878 » Thu Jul 10, 2025 10:32 am

Does anyone know what this noise is? My wife recorded me last night thinking I was snoring.

Thanks.

Edit: I checked my stats for last night and my leak was 21.6 L/min.

Could be snoring, could be mask farting.

Get a free account at SleepHQ.com, upload your card, and post the SleepHQ link in this thread.

Can I still snore with BIPAP? I didn't think it sounded like that. It could sound like mask farting.

Is SleepHQ better than Sleepyhead?

SleepyHead is no longer supported. Most users switched to OSCAR.

As compared to OSCAR, SleepHQ is easier to use and much easier to post in this forum. And, the forum members can zoom in on the SleepHQ charts.

I'm hanging on to OSCAR, because we never know when the owners of HQ will stop offering free accounts.

Absolutely. In fact, you can snore heavily if the machine settings have not been optimized. Members can help you with that.

Let me reiterate, I don't know what the sound in your recording is.

Oh, right, I couldn't remember which was newer.

I hope not, I had an updated sleep study recently.

I'll check out SleepHQ and upload the data.

Thanks.

Thanks.

The chart shows a messy sleep:

How many hours of real sleep?
Are those hours fragmented with a lot of arousals?
What meds are being taken?
Any other health conditions???
How do you feel all day?

I do get to sleep late, around 11:30 most nights. I get up around 8-8:30.

I have to get up to go to the bathroom a few times a night. I take Lunesta to help get to sleep. Do you need to know about other meds that I take daily?

The only other health condition, besides obstructive sleep apnea, is IBS.

I feel ok during the day. Sometimes I'm tired after work and don't feel like exercising.

Thanks.

How old are you?
Is it possible the pee breaks in the middle of the night are prostate related?

And yes...do you take any other meds besides the sleeping aid? The reason we ask is because lots of meds have an unwanted side effect of messing with sleep. I like to know names and then I go look up to see if that med is known to mess with sleep.
I don't want to hear "my doc or pharmacist said it would mess with my sleep"....they often don't know every little side effect for every little drug out there.

BTW I agree with CG...your report shows a really messy sleep night. Lots of arousals....do you remember very many?

Pretty much all those flagged events were/are arousal/awake related flagging....and you weren't sound asleep and they don't mean much except your sleep is crappy for some reason or other.

another BTW....I couldn't hear any noise on your video but then I chalked it up to my crappy laptop speakers.
Often I can't clearly hear just talking much less be able to here small minute sounds like from a machine.

I had a physical in June and I had a PSA test that was normal. I should probably see a urologist. I haven't been to one in years.

Ok, here is a list:
  • Armodafinil 150mg
  • Bupropion Hcl Xl 150mg
  • Sertraline Hcl 50mg
  • Rosuvastatin 10mg
  • Valsartan 80mg
  • Eszopiclone 3mg
  • Zyrtec 10mg
  • Flonase
I was taking Zepbound until recently since Caremark stopped covering it. I just started Wegovy 1.7mg today. I was up to 15 mg on the Zepbound.

I only remember the two or three times I get up to use the bathroom. I do have trouble falling asleep often. I have procrastinated about taking a CBT program.

My doctor had me use a sleep profiler the past two nights. I have to drop it off on Monday.

I'm not sure how reliable the MyAir score is, but I've had good results recently. I'll upload recent data to my SleepHQ account.

Pretty much all the first 5 meds you mentioned can affect sleep in various ways.....some more so than others probably.
Not so much in making a person sleepy but they can impact sleep itself....cause arousals or inability to fall asleep or even stay asleep.

And yes...have a chat with the doctor about the nocturia. While nocturia is a common complaint of OSA diagnosed people it isn't the only cause of nocturia. Diabetes comes to my mind since my husband has it.

Since your AHI is primarily post arousal related I have my doubts as to whether or not we can blame your nocturia on sub optimal OSA therapy.

I don't know if you care or not or if the medication side effect baggage is something you are okay with...because the conditions that cause the need for the meds also is a problem. Which problem is the bigger problem??? I dunno...that's up to you and your doctor to decide.
