Paradoxically insomnia

Post by jlsmithseven » Tue Jul 08, 2025 10:43 am

Has anyone experienced this? I believe I have it. I remember my in lab sleep study showing me asleep for 9 hours but it felt like I only had 5 hours. Anyone have any insights on this?

If you quit believing you have it, you won't have it.

Paradoxical insomnia, also known as sleep state misperception or subjective insomnia, is a sleep disorder where individuals believe they are getting little to no sleep, despite objective evidence of a normal or adequate sleep duration. Essentially, they feel like they're awake all night, even when they're actually asleep.

9 hours in bed but only 6 hours 12 minutes asleep. Your impression was pretty close. Sleep efficiency at 70% is rated as "poor" and so feeling like you only had 5 hours is totally valid.
