I got my original DreamStation 1 in 03/2020. The recall replaced the DS1 with a DreamStation 2 in 10/2021. My DME recently sent me an email to start the 5 year replacement process which I assume would be for 03/2026 (I'll be ignoring the email until the actual replacement date nears). If I still had the DS1 the replacement date of 10/2026 i believe would be correct, but the DS2 being brand new in 10/2021 I'm not sure if this would throw off the 5 year replacement criteria and/or if Medicare would flag the 03/2026 date as too early? I'm pretty sure my DME knows I have the DS2 replacement, but also realize DME's sometimes do things to benefit themselves more than who they serve.
Would it be the opinion or experience that 03/2026 replacement date based on the original machine would be the one used for Medicare/Insurance purposes?

My philosophy is to get a new machine as soon as insurance will pay for it.
Just let the DME try for insurance preapproval. Don't take delivery until you know for sure the machine has been approved.
Don't mention that the replacement machine is less than five years old.
