sleep med

Post by vhendrix » Wed Jul 02, 2025 7:14 pm

I am a severe insomniac and I use CPAP. It is extremely hard for me to go to sleep without something to put me out which is currently Lorasepam/ Ativan.. My dr wants me off of it because of my age 68, because it can lead to dementia in people over my age, plus it is highly addictive. I've tried ever sleeping pill and anti depressant to go to sleep and Trazodone helps but I feel like hell the next day. I've tried Klonopin whight is a Benzo also. I want something natural but I have tried everything made. ,melatonin, etc, Does anyone have any suggestions strong enough to put me out with wearing my FF mask, besides scripts, CBD, or medical marijuana because I have a bad reaction to them also, I am at the end of my rope.

HELP, Lorazapam works for me but doctors dont want to give it to me and I'm not crazy about taking it if it can lead to Alhzeimers. Thanks

How much trazadone are you taking? Also, are you drinking alcohol?

Have you tried good sleep hygiene? Study it and practice it religiously.

I agree with the doctor that getting off Ativan is best. I was on it for a time, as well as another benzo. They are bad for you long term. Your instinct to get off them is spot on but it's not easy if you're been on them a while. I got off by titrating the dose down very, very gradually.

Are you male or female? I'm 68 and female: menopause came with problems sleeping, so I got on hormone replacement therapy which includes 200 mg of progesterone at bedtime. I also use Mercola Sleep Support. It comes in a spray bottle, has 1.5 gm of melatonin and some other natural ingredients (L-Theanine, Tart Cherry Concentrate, and Chamomile Flower). Between these two things I am able to go to sleep very easily. The progesterone alone is very sedating and I think the spray might help keep me asleep but I still had problems waking up early and not being able to go back to sleep, but then CPAP has helped with that a lot.

If you're male I guess the progesterone won't help but you might want to check your testosterone and consider boosting it if it's low.
