Private Insurance for Supplies (Canada)

Post by Dog Slobber » Sun Apr 27, 2025 3:13 pm

Looking for others' experience for insurance coverage for supplies in Ontario, Canada.

Since 2018, I have been getting 85% coverage of my supplies (mask, hose, cushions, tanks, filters) through SunLife, without issue.

Last week while submitting, I noticed a new link that made reference to CPAP claims, so I took a look it said:
Here's what we'll need:

Claiming for a mask or supplies only? We'll just need a medical referral issued within the last 12 months and a detailed receipt.
I submitted my claim with receipt, but without a medical referral. And it was paid. I have no interest in doing another sleep study.

Are there any other Canadians, who have had their insurance provider insist on another sleep study (or referral) to continue getting their supplies covered?

I am in Manitoba but to the best of my knowledge referral or a prescription is not required for purchases of anything but a machine in Canada. I can understand that they would want a copy of the invoice but should require nothing more. Just another insurance company looking for a way to make things difficult. Obviously it is BS since they paid your claim.
