Yawning when I take my mask off

Post by richjh » Sun Apr 27, 2025 11:09 am

Over the last few months I have been yawning multiple times when I take my mask off. My seal is good but my events have been going up as well. I sleep at least 7 hours per night. Could this be age related as I’m 75?

You should get tested for respiratory problems - yawning is a sign of them. Not sure if age has anything to do with it in your case, but a resp. MD could tell you.

I'm not following here. Since when is yawning an indication of anything other than the fact that you may be sleepy?

I yawn at night when it's getting near bedtime and I don't have any health issues, other than sleep apnea that is.

I just now googled this, and yawning is 100% normal.

"Researchers initially thought that yawning might mean you lack oxygen, but more recent evidence suggests this is untrue. Yawning doesn't mean you lack oxygen, or your body is trying to get more oxygen."

"Excessive yawning may simply mean that you're tired, drowsy, or fatigued. However, it can also be a sign of a medical condition, such as sleep apnea, narcolepsy, or a reaction to a medication. If you find you are yawning excessively, it may be best to schedule an appointment with a doctor to determine the cause."

If you're concerned, see your doctor.
