Oxygen Concentrators

Post by Severeena » Wed Feb 07, 2007 4:49 pm

Tom and I had the nurse from the company we have our oxygen concentrator from.

We have the AreoSept dual 6 and you will not believe what is happening. Every time the compressor kicks in, one side will go up and the other go down. This depends on which one the cycle is on last. Some times Tom's O2 level will spike and mine drop and then mine will spike and his drops. We have been having problems and we both were thinking we were getting bored with each other and spending to much time either on the computer or me wth my sewing and crafts.

Gee were we wrong.

I am asking for a whole new Dual Machine or one Tom might be able to purchase on his own without fear the machine causing a fire.

The unit we arenow using was pulled and recalled by the manufacture.

I would like your input on which dual units are best.

You are more likely to encounter more people with experience w/concentrators and also a couple of really good RTs who specialize in emphysema & COPD therapy, etc. at

EFFORTS is the Emphysema Foundation For Our Right To Survive. They have an e-mailing list you can subscribe to (free). An excellent, friendly, helpful group of people like those in this forum

I've heard of something like this happening before. It's usually an internal valve failing.

The only recall I'm aware of with the Airsep units was limited to a fairly small run of machines and was related to a capacitor if I remember correctly. Are you certain your machine is included?

More often than not concentrators stay rental units. If this unit is a rental this would simply be a case of the provider coming out and exchanging the unit for a new one.

I've been a big fan of Airsep machines for years and years. I've actually worked with several members of thier Senior Management many times and have a very high level of respect for thier product, vision and ethics.

They still make several very good dual flow units if you still want to go that route. They tend to run cooler (and therefore longer) and quieter than most other brands out there.

Talk to your provider about what they deal with the most. Most providers tend to deal with one primary O2 vendor and therefore will be best equiped to maintain and repair those units vs other units that they could special order for you but don't keep parts around for.

While there are many vendors of Concentrators that make pretty good product (Invacare and Devilbiss being the largest) I *think* AirSep is still the only one offering a dual-flow configuration. I heard there was a really small player trying to market one but the picture I saw looked like a model from around 1975 and if no one is carrying it, that means no one can fix it either.

Matt, my hubby wants to purchase a dual oxygen concentrator because I was told they were going to pick up the oxygen concentrator and give him a different one.

The reason behind it was, they have never billed the insurance company for my use.

How do they bill for a dual unit.
