First day using Oscar

Post by yribaar » Mon Sep 23, 2024 8:55 am

Hi,
It's been 30 years since I had a sleep study. I never thought about my settings too much using APAP. ( huge mistake i know)
some background: 63,6'1,240, bearded--- heart attack in 2020, congenital heart disease, diabetic

So i downloaded Oscar and was surprised at how awful my graphs looked.

Why the flow rate is so jagged in relation to the hyponeas?

A couple of questions. Has your machine been reconditioned after the PR recall? And could you zoom in starting at about 1:20, posting a snippet of about 15 minutes? Finally, what is happening during the breaks in your usage of the machine?

This is the new machine they sent after the recall.

the breaks are peeing and going out with my dog. I turn off the machine because blue heelers love to cause trouble and mine thinks it's a leaf blower.

I had to look up blue heelers. What beautiful dogs! I'm sorry you have to get up during the night for yours, though.

Pee breaks: If you're a man, you might want to be sure you have your prostate checked. You might also want to restrict fluids for 3-4 hours ahead of bedtime. And if you wake up and think, "Well, as long as I'm awake, maybe I'll get up and pee," then instead try just rolling over and going back to sleep.

Thanks for the snippet. It's hard to know whether these hypopneas are obstructive or central (meaning your breathing dwindles without any obstruction). Some though not all of your spates of hypopneas are associated with snores, so maybe they're obstructive.

Do you sleep on your sides? Back? Some of each?

Given the OAs, flow limitations, snores, and hypopneas, I'd recommend raising your minimum pressure to 9. You don't have to do that all at once; you could start by changing it to 6 and then going up from there.

Can't resist linking a photo of Woody. He's 100% Honey Badger :)

I'm a dude...or I was until I turned into a grumpy old man.
I always sleep on my side. ( 90% right side )

Thanks for your time. I'll come back after I make the changes.
