Returning bibap user.. need a new bibap

Post by georgepds » Tue Jun 18, 2024 7:58 am

Hi

I now have for medicare (+BCBS supplemental), and need a new bipap. my old one was a philips bipap auto M series ( circa 2010)

I'd like to use Oscar, or a similar program, with the device. The DME tells me they provide a Aircurve Resmed Bipap , according to them i rent ofr 13 months then own

Oscar lists partial support for some aircurve models.

Is there a recommended bipap here?
Should I stick with the DME or search for another one?
Is there a way to buy direct , that bills medicare+ BCBS directly.
Is there another program like Oscar that is used, that might work with the Aircurve?
Do the manufacturers now provide a review like Oscar to patients?

FWIIW.. I am in boston north shore area

TIA
G

OSCAR works just fine with the ResMed bilevel machines.
The AirCurve 10 model line and the newly released latest model the AirCurve 11 model line.
I am using the AirCurve 10 VAuto myself and OSCAR works just fine with it.
What made you think it wouldn't work???

Phillips Respironics is no longer selling ANY cpap/apap/bipap or whatever pap machines in the USA.
You need to get happy with the ResMed.....besides IMHO I think it is a better machine and I have used both brands in the bilevel model line.

You should have gotten rid of that Respironics a long time ago. (I had 9000 hrs on mine when the recall hit in 2021)

I've had the Resmed Aircurve 10 since then. (I have 6700 hrs on it now) Its been working great (My AHI is below 1)

I will use it as long as it continues to give good therapy.

Out of curiosity, in case something goes wrong, what machine will I use next? I honestly don't know.
When the recall hit, I wound up purchasing the Aircurve 10 myself, even though I was eligible for a new machine. (the story behind this is too complicated to go into)

I see that the Aircurve 11 sells for $1795, and the Airsense 11 sells for $888. I have to ask myself if the difference is worth $900! The reason for this is that I have read some reviews of the Airsense 11 that have given me reason for thinking twice (too many details to go into).

So, what are those using the Aircurve 10 now going to do for the next machine?

Well, if I am lucky (at my ripe old age), my machine will last as many years as it already has, and maybe there will be a good choice after that (perhaps the Aircurve 12 will be out and all problems corrected).

God bless all,
packitin

Georgepds, I wish I knew the answers to your questions about financing your next machine. If for some reason you wind up wanting to buy a lightly used machine out of pocket, send forum member LSAT a private message. I got my VAuto through him, and everything went smooth as silk.
Oscar software is available at https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/

Another Aircurve 10... I have five Ax10's in my closet, all good working machines... the 10 series can be loaded with any firmware, replacement motors on Amazon or Alibaba. I have an Elite and a C2C running vAuto right now, works a treat. I had insurance buy me a new Aircurve 10 vAuto, it's in the closet, I've just finished the compliance period on it, so it's in reserve... don't like the 11, won't own one, I have enough machines for the rest of my life right now. Get a new 10 while you still can.

Yeah, you're probably right.

I have my old Philips refurbished Respironics Dreamstation bipap, which Philips sent to me about 8 months after the recall, but I placed it in my closet, and haven't touched it.

Its probably o.k. and safe now, but somehow I can't seem to use it anymore. Its like the restaurant near me that I used to frequent, when 3 or 4 customers died from hepatitis after eating there, and they are trying to make a comeback after almost having to close down. But even after they made changes and hired a new staff, and lots of people go back again, I still can't bring myself to eat there. (it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth)

So, in regard to your answer, as soon as I get 12,000 hours on my Aircurve 10, I think I'll send it off and have it refurbished to be used again.

Guessing you're replying to me... I just checked on cpapsupplies dot com (not a sponsor!)... aircurve 10 and 11 are within 20$ of each other... the C2C version (no modem) of the 10 is the same price!

Your 10 will go to 22,000 hours before it complains... and probably hundreds of hours past that. Going rate I hear is 250$ at non-RM shops to get the motor replaced. Not sure if they replace the motor driver chip, that's what holds the hours counter.... I just ignore the nag message when I use that machine.
